Jennifer Lawrence is undoubtedly one of the biggest celebrities in Hollywood. The Hunger Games star has her image plastered all over both the tabloids and fashion spreads, and the public can’t seem to get enough of her winning personality, sense of humor and down-to-earth nature. But even though Lawrence may be one of the hottest stars around, she still has refreshingly normal insecurities. In fact, she recently called herself “obese” in an interview with Elle magazine!
This is what Lawrence had to say about her body and Hollywood standards:
In Hollywood, I’m obese. I’m considered a fat actress. I’m Val Kilmer in that one picture on the beach.”
While I appreciate the sentiment, somehow I find this hard to believe. I mean, even a Google image search of “Jennifer Lawrence fat” yields nothing but flattering results. I understand actresses trying to be more relatable, but this seems to be stretching it a bit. Nonetheless, it’s nice to see a celebrity be so candid about what she thinks of her body. I’m just going to try and not think about how my figure would be seen in Hollywood! [via EW]
What do you think of Lawrence calling herself fat?

I think in the case of statements like these you need to take into consideration the context in which the phrase was uttered in. Lawrence made a reference to Hollywood, I doubt she sees herself as fat but rather bigger in relatively to others in Hollywood which I don’t see a problem with. Personally, I am considered to be on the smaller side in comparison to the general population but when you get done to comparisons within other females in my specific sport I can be considered fat.

“I’m never going to starve myself for a part,” she tellsElle. “I don’t want little girls to be like, ‘Oh, I want to look like Katniss, so I’m going to skip dinner’ … I was trying to get my body to look fit and strong — not thin and underfed.”

Yeah, all you have to do is read her statement. She is saying in her context, she is considered obese because she probably has a bunch of tiny mega stars next to her. She is expressing a feeling not a fact. She is looking at her daily reality. I think she looks perfect the way she is.
I hope Hollywood doesn’t ruin her.

She didn’t say she IS obese. She said that based on Hollywood’s wacky standards, she is.

I love Jennifer Lawrence. I saw her on a talk show, and she comes off as really sweet and down-to-earth. She kept making self-depreciating comments on that show, but that may just be her type of humor. Anyway, I think she has one of the best celebrity personalities from what I’ve seen.

Gah. Do any of you Lovelyish girls know how to read? Way to take her comment out of context. I’ve said it here before, and I’ll say it again ~ more than just a pretty face, my sweet ass. 99% of the content here is garbage.

She’s not calling herself fat. She’s relaying Hollywood’s opinion. And she’s right, that is unfortunately what Hollywood thinks.

Charlize Theron went through that and maybe still does and I think even Anne Hathaway with being referred to or perceived as heavier. With Charlize, she is probably very tall so she may have a bigger clothing size but no one I mentioned is fat. But compared to the norm in the mainstream entertainment industry, most people would seem bigger in comparison. A big reason I never pursued acting is because I’ve had eating disorders and body issues and trying to get super thin would not be good. It isn’t for anyone but when you already deal with that, it can be dangerous.
