In a time when I’m starting to wonder if magazines are going to be phased out by the Internet, it’s interesting to see how far publications have come since their beginnings.
Vogue has been around since 1892… that is a long time, my friends. Wouldn’t it be awesome to get your hands on a 1892 issue?
Just in case you were curious what some of your favorite publications looked like when they started out, here are a few then and now photos of your favorite women’s magazines.

This is fascinating. And it makes sense why so many women have self confidence issues now.

I have a 1940 bridal magazine. It’s awesome!

Very cool! I love that the closer you get to our time, the less clothing you see.
Sad that women’s magazines have become like that.

One thing I like about the old magazines is you can see the name of the magazine. What a novel idea not to have someone’s head blocking it.

I got my BFA in Graphic Design. I loved looking at old magazine covers, and studying them in my History of Graphic Design and Publication Design class(es).
Magazines have certainly changed with the times. I do like the older magazine covers because they weren’t dominated with multiple headlines, and negative space was shown. Now of days, everything is crammed together and hardly any negative space is shown. Unless magazines go through redesigns. Or if you count the New Yorker magazine. They hardly use headlines, and typically use illustrations on the cover instead of photographs. Which makes them different, but a good different at that.

I prefer the older magizines mainley because I dont understand how the women went from something called self respect to half naked women on the covers of magizines–usally celebs talkin bout there own personal lives being passed from one to another–.like what happened to women actually giving advice about diffrent topics that people are actually are interrested in or to help people keep up with survays, statics, and up to date fashions today all thats on the covers of magizines are how famous Kim Kardasion is just because whatever reason that is but then again thats just my opinion.

@cherry_jonzie - For what it’s worth, I’m personally not a fan of clothing and I have plenty of respect for myself. We’re born naked. People cover up more when they’re ashamed of their bodies. Just something to think about.
