Recently, I’ve been sort of entertaining the idea of speaking with a plastic surgeon about a possible nose job. Not because I dislike my appearance, but because I have some sinus problems and a slightly crooked septum. It wouldn’t be a big change, just enough to allow me to breathe better… but the idea still terrifies me. Especially when I see stuff like this. SCARY.
I’m still up in the air about even having a consultation with a surgeon, but at least I know the dangers. Here are some photos of plastic surgery gone horribly wrong.

How do you feel about plastic surgery?

I will have nightmares. (and I really wanted to be nice. I swear I did).

I am kind of the fence about the whole plastic surgery thing. I am not against it, but I feel some people get it for the wrong reason. For the most part, I think people should age gracefully. Once you start getting work on your face by way of injecting fillings and lifts, your face may age unnaturally. If you need surgery to correct a situation, in your case, to help you breathe better and alleviate some of your sinus issues, it may be a good idea. However, some people who want to alter their face because they don’t like how it looks can often have a skewed view of what is considered enough. I am no expert on plastic surgery, but I’ve seen articles on the cat lady–it took multiple procedures to get to the the point where she is now. The people in the examples wanted an excess of a particular enhancement, such as very high cheekbones, full lips, super smooth forehead, etc. There is such a thing as too much.
You probably find the procedure for your nose to be scary because it is still surgery and it is not necessary. You are able to breathe, and you may be inconvenienced sometimes, but you can live with it. Not to mention the complications that may arise during the procedure, and after.

I have a friend who was getting sinus infections at least quarterly, she went through some alternative scoping option, it really helped her out. So definitely look at alternatives to your situation because there may be something less invasive.

Oh sweet jeebus. Now I won’t be able to sleep tonight.

Having a septoplasty (fixing deviated septum) is very common. I have many friends and family that have gone through with it, and they’re all looking and breathing fine. It’s a minor nose surgery. All the scary pictures you’ve posted are botox and crap like that gone wrong. No one is injecting anything unnatural into your face for nose surgery!

In the past, I felt plastic surgery was unnecessary unless you really needed it. For example, being disfigured in a car accident. However, my thoughts regarding plastic surgery has laxed a bit. It’s live and let live. The person having plastic surgery is the one who has to live with it. He/she isn’t hurting anyone.
Besides, the celebrities featured in these pics are extreme examples. It’s obvious they had repeated surgeries to look the way they do. And it seems they have some distorted view of their faces/bodies ie. body dysmorphic disorder.

The lips… all the lips! O_O

oh no!!!! ;~; these pictures are so scary :<<<<<
I think you should go for it.
You’ll know when it is complete when you are breathing fine.
These people, however, never seem to be satisfied because their goal is vague and vain.

I don’t think people should have (non-reconstructive) cosmetic surgery. It promotes an unhealthy attitude towards appearances while also promoting ‘ugly’/flat chested people breeding. “You must be pretty so you can have ugly babies!”

that’s just terrifying

@Katherine_the_third@xanga - exactly!
i had my deviated septum fixed. it’s actually not plastic surgery at all; i had the option of having a plastic surgeon work along with my ENT to do the surgery if i wanted to have my nose cosmetically altered in addition to the fixing of its functioning, but i chose not to do that for mainly financial reasons. the septoplasty in itself is not a “nose job” in the traditional plastic surgery sense, because it’s not intended to change the outer appearance of the nose. if you wanted to change the outer appearance, you’d go for a rhinoplasty.
in terms of how well my septoplasty worked for me, it wasn’t the magic cure-all i’d hoped for, because my allergies still make it somewhat hard to breathe and i still snore, but i don’t have as much difficulty breathing and my nose doesn’t usually hurt when i exercise like it used to. so it can definitely improve things. it’s something to really think about before doing it, though. the recovery is fairly quick but for at least a few days i felt pretty uncomfortable and was told i had to sleep sitting up. but it’s not awful. your call

Don’t feel the least bit bad about looking at my almost 60 year old face in the mirror. It is what it is. The funny one for me, is all the women in the close to middle age group in Hollywood plumping up their lips. What was wrong with their lips in the first place? It’s so painfully obvious, and ridiculously bad to look at. And for years we heard Dr. Phil proclaim his wife would NEVER do anything to herself. She’s almost my age, and since that show started, her lips have doubled in size.

it seems that a lot of people say they want a nose job for health reasons as a coverup for wanting it for aesthetic reasons. just admit it. a small nose job won’t botch your whole face up like that anyway. the pictures depicted are several surgeries covering large areas of the body and are in no way comparable to a new customer’s first nose job to correct a slightly deviated septum.
i say just own up to it and go for it.

i say go for it, you have nothing to be ashamed of..
just make sure the surgeon .. or doctor is reputable.

As much as yes, the surgery is horrific, a LOT of the horror is just really atrocious makeup.
