Last year’s winner, Thailand’s Sirapassorn “Sammy” Atthayakorn (right) poses with Miss Thailand. Some controversies surrounding the pageant claim Miss International Queen Pageant is rigged in favor of their homeland Thai queens. This year, however, it was Kevin Ballot from the Philippines that took home the crown:
The Miss International Queen winner was awarded $10,000 plus an apartment in Pattaya for one year, a Thai cell phone and of course, the beautiful winning crown that she must return next year. Congrats, Kevin! [via Buzzfeed]

I’m going with my peeps. Congrats Philippines!
Btw, I checked out the contestants and there were three from the Philippines. I didn’t realize more than one contestant could enter.

@nepenthium@xanga - Why LOL?
Kim — I’m so glad you posted this! These women look lovely and, although beauty pageants are generally kinda silly, I think you’re totally right in that this is a celebration of the beauty, talent + acceptance of the trans* community. Wonderful!

Whoa.. they look beautiful.

@samescobar - because their crazy makeup and costumes are hilarious and even more fake than the regular miss universe costumes. And in general, celebrating diversity through something so superficial as a beauty pageant is ridiculous

That’s a lot of makeup :\ I guess that’s why pageants don’t seem attractive to me. Although there is the talent bit, which is good I suppose

@nepenthium@xanga - Ahhh, that makes tons of sense, then, haha. Given how people can react towards the transgender community, I jumped to the conclusion that you were somehow laughing about that aspect of it. My mistake and I’m glad you explained, thanks!
