Can you put a price on virginity? One Brazilian students thinks so. Her price? $780,000.
Twenty-year-old physical education Catarina Migliorini auctioned off her virginity as part of a project by Australian filmmaker Justin Sisely. Although the actual act of sex will not be filmed, Catarina and her partner will both be interviewed before and after.
The winning bid of $780,000 came from a Japanese man named “Natsu”. A male also auctioned off his virginity for the project, but his winning bid was only $3,000.
Before Catarina and Natsu have sex, they will both undergo testing. He will be checked for sexually transmitted diseases and she will checked to make sure she is really a virgin. If they both pass, the deed will be done aboard a plane flying over the ocean in attempt to escape anti-prostitution laws.
Prostitution is defined as the act or practice of providing sexual services to another person in return for payment. Although this is exactly what Catarina is doing, she doesn’t see herself as a prostitute. “If you only do it once in your life then you are not a prostitute, just like if you take one amazing photograph it does not automatically make you a photographer,” she said.
So what will she do with the money? Catarina claims she is doing to use it for a charitable purpose by building homes for needy people in her native Brazil. “I’m a romantic girl at heart and believe in love,” she said. “But this will make a big difference to my area.” Whether she is telling the truth remains to be seen.
What do you think of Catarina auctioning off her virginity? Tell me your thoughts in the comments below!

Bloody hell. Wish I’d thought of this. Sadly I am too late…and poor.

I think its sad that the man who participated only got 3000…

I mean, if she wants to have sex for money then she should go for it I guess. It always surprises me how much attention the virginity auctioning thing gets sometimes. I guess since I don’t beleive in the concept of virginity I jus don’t get it. Why is this any more news than anyone else prostituting themselves?

In all my experience that’s what happens anyway.
‘Oh, you don’t have your own house or a car? I’m not going to have sex with you.’
*calculates cost*
If it isn’t money, it’s time, distance, effort, or some other shit that ultimately puts a monetary price on it.
People have lost all concept of self-control.

this is both creepy and disgusting, especially the filming part

@emptyabyss@xanga - “It always surprises me how much attention the virginity auctioning thing gets sometimes.“
You should’ve been around to see it in the 1600′s. Back then it would draw a price of two of the biggest hogs in town.

@shezadey@xanga - I believe there’s a typo in this post. Where it says “Although the actual act of sex will now be filmed, Catarina and her partner will both be interviewed before and after,” the now should be a not.

What a whore.

What is the point of this project? It’s her body and if she did it willingly then its her choice, but what drove her to do this to raise money for her country?
guest
She’s not worth that amount of money. I mean, she’s alright, but she’s not gorgeous or anything. I don’t know why anyone would bid that much, even on someone really pretty.
guest
@dicemn7@xanga - Oh okay I was about to say that’s insane…

@DrummingMediocrity@xanga - The guy that’s paying the 3/4 of a million dollars doesn’t think so, and that’s all that matters. -_-
@lianO_Owang@xanga - To raise the next generation of whores? Who knows…
“Catarina claims she is doing to use it for a charitable purpose by building homes for needy people in her native Brazil.“
“Mommy, how did we afford this house?”
“Well, sweetie, it’s complicated. You see, when a man has a lot of money…”

Hey, we all gotta make money somehow! I totally support legalized (adult) prostitution (child prostitution is sick). It’s legal in my home country and no ill has become of it. I say let them make their money the way they want.
guest
@At_Sixes_And_Sevens@xanga - Ditto. Or “wouldn’t if I could have”, anyway.

She can do with her body as she pleases, but the auctioning of her virginity as some financial transaction leaves something to be desired.

mine was free, so.. good for her!

If she is doing this for the needy wouldn’t there have been a better way to earn the money that doesn’t involve sex with basically a stranger? She could’ve easily set up a charitable foundation through many websites for free. I guess perhaps the sad thing is that a lot of charitable foundations doesn’t even get as much as $780,000.
And what the hell is this Justin Sisely trying to accomplish anyways? He’s basically selling sex on TV to get fame, and calls himself a filmmaker…wtf.

Er… Im glad the money is going to a worthy cause, this isn’t exactly the right way to do it.. :/

@greasy_heart@xanga - bwahaha indeed

This is just sad.

Really wish I’d done it!
Any other get rich quick ideas please?

I’m not surprised that the winning bidder happened to be Japanese since there is precident for this sort of auction in his culture: the virginity of young geisha’s in training is auctioned off to the highest bidder. But geisha’s are not prostitutes either. This is the one time in their life, most often, when their sex is sold. It’s almost a ceremonial Rite of Passage. Otherwise, they are only highly regarded performers and hostesses: they sing, they dance, they read poetry, they serve tea in the highly intricate tea ceremony.

I wonder what she plans on using the money for? Thats all I am thinking.
