Getting amped for your Halloween party? Mood is everything, and one of the most important elements to that is the soundtrack! Whether you’re going for a freaky fright fest vibe or good-natured casual fun, playing some awesome Halloween songs that everybody knows and will be down to sing along to is integral. Plus, I’ve included some fun remixes so they’re extra dance-worthy. So come take a look,

1. Bobby “Boris” Picket & the Crypt Keepers – Monster Mash

I know this sounds ridiculous, but I occasionally cry when this song comes on because it’s so nostalgic for me (then again, I’m just kind of ridiculously emotional when it comes to nostalgia). I love this song and this music video is the perfect thing to project on your wall in the background of the party! If you’re more into a cute video that’s also wonderful and accompanies this song, check out this one. If dancing to the classic isn’t enough, I found this fun, kinda weird remix that’s fantastic fun.

2. The Misfits – Astro Zombies

Of course, there are tons of Misfits songs that fit in with Halloween. I was pretty close to using “Astro Zombies” as well as this adorable cover, but Halloween just… fits. Plus, Figure did a pretty bizarre/interesting/ridiculous remix, released through Mad Decent, I believe.

3. Rocky Horror Picture Show – Time Warp

Rocky Horror Picture Show is a beloved classic, though I admittedly didn’t give it a chance ’til college. This song if easily one of the most fun things to dance to with a large group of people, so try it out! Sadly, I couldn’t find a good enough remix of this to post that way worthy of recommending for a party, but if you’re looking to play partials of a few different Rocky Horror songs during your shenanigans, check out this.

4. Screamin Jay Hawkins – I Put A Spell On You

Remember that scene in Hocus Pocus where the Sanderson Sisters bewitch all the parents by singing this onstage at the county Halloween party? It’s amazing, right? Put a spell on all your guests by playing this; I promise, they’ll love it. But if you’re looking for something with a bit more beat, check out these two remixes: the first one, by Splatinum, is a bit slow and would work well for a low-key party while the second, Ar’Taba’s, would definitely foster some dancing. If you’re loyal to Nina Simone’s version, check out MiMOSA’s remix, as well.

5. Ray Parker Jr. – Ghostbusters

Ghostbusters, one of the best supernatural-themed movies ever (at least in my opinion), also has one of my most fun theme songs. As a side note, one of my best friends and I are unnaturally obsessed with Ghostbusters:

Anyway, if you’re looking for a good remix of this song, look no further! Here’s a subtle but solid one:

And a ridiculous one…

6. Warren Zevon – Werewolves of London

How great is this song? It’s perfect for a fun, spooky-themed drive through the countryside or just singing along with your friends. It doesn’t lend itself perfectly for a good dance remix, but check out this interesting/awesome 8-Bit cover:

7. Michael Jackson – Thriller

I mean, was there any other song that could’ve possibly closed out this list better? I have about a half dozen videos of my friends and I dancing to this (though they’d turn me into a ghost if I posted those online), so it’s one of my ultimate nostalgic songs with them. Everybody knows the crazy dance moves, the jacket and, as the initial GIF of this post shows, the way MJ eats popcorn. While I’m inclined to not list any remixes for this since it’s basically the epitome of “dance-worthy,” it’s always fun to listen to new stuff. So here’s a slightly more dance-y version. The Gaetano Ibiza one is fun, too!

Lovelies, do you love any of these songs, too? Have any other great suggestions? Let me know!

Hope you enjoy some of these songs, and happy Halloween, lovelies!
