It’s very hard for me to find cute things to wear to work that are both my style and professional. Luckily, my office is pretty casual, most people wear jeans and t-shirts, so the “dressing up” equivalent in this office would be a nice dress or a dressy top. I tend to wear dresses whenever I go out for the night anyway, so if I can find versatile pieces that can be worn both at the office and at happy hour later, sign me up!
Here are some of my favorite outfits for fall work and play:
I love mustard yellow, and these layered looks would be perfect for the office. Since most workwear tends to be black, gray or navy, an unexpected pop of color definitely brightens up my work day.
I love collared shirts with sweaters. They can look so put-together and effortless when executed correctly. I especially like the long oxford t-shirt and the shorter sweater. It softens up the look and doesn’t look like you’re a 90-year-old college professor. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
I love wearing patterns to work, pairing them with opaque tights. I tend to shy away from any super bold patterns, so this subtle-pattern dress is perfect. And I love that shade of blue.
1. Lucca Couture Chiffon Polka Dot Dress, Urban Outfitters, $69.
2. Essential Shift Dress, Forever 21, $19.80.
3. Urban Renewal Surplice Dress, Urban Outfitters, $59.
I have this dress in a few different colors, and I wear them out everywhere. They tend to run a bit short, so I wear them with tights and heels or patterned flats and I layer them with a tank underneath. They’re also super comfortable… and they have pockets!
4. Closing Day Dress, ModCloth, $59.
I’m in love with this blue dress. The sleeves and color are just perfect. I’d pair them with black opaque tights and patent mary-jane flats, and then switch into my party shoes (hot pink flats) when I got off work. The reviews for the dress say that it’s a bit short but as a shorter lady (I’m 5’1), this suits me just fine!
5. Gillian Dress, Dear Creatures, $105.
I’m in love with Dear Creatures. Their pieces are adorable and easily transition from work to play. Oh, and their Fall collection is amazing.
6. Chignon Dress, Anthropologie, $118.
This dress looks so comfortable. I love how it’s styled in the picture. I’d probably wear my sheer dotted tights with it too. It’s a bit pricey, but jersey dresses are everywhere, so this style would be super easy to emulate.

What do you tend to wear to work, Lovelies? Is your dress code strictly business or are you allowed some room to play a bit with your outfit?

I love all of these! Very casual, comfortable looking, and appropriate.

I LOVE mustard yellow! These looks are all really cute, but some definitely wouldn’t look nearly as good on anyone with curves. I usually wear a size 2, but I have some thighs on me, and the imbalance throws the whole look- like in the second look with the cropped pants and skinny belt, for example. Love it on the model, couldn’t pull it off.

@vlinder_farfalla@xanga - I feel the same way about some of these pictures too, to be honest with you! I’m a bit busty for my frame, so that same outfit that you mentioned would look a bit silly on me because it would make my chest look even bigger. A lot of these outfits don’t just inspire me to dress like they do, they inspire me to try to incorporate new things in my wardrobe. But the tucked in shirt will probably never happen for me.

I love the shift dresses and all the layers (tights, cardigans, scarves)! Some good outfit inspo for me!
