It’s not uncommon for celebrities to drop out of school when they hit it big. They’re already making money, so I guess they don’t see a point in staying in school. I think it’s a horrible that these celebs send young fans the message that education isn’t important. That’s why I love hearing stories of celebs who recommit to their studies after they become famous.
Despite dropping out of high school ten years ago to play Jimmy Brooks on everyone’s favorite Canadian teen drama, Drake finally earned his diploma at age 25! The former Degrassi star announced the news on Twitter. “97% on my final exam. 88% in the course,” he tweeted. “One of the greatest feelings in my entire life. As of tonight I have graduated high school!”
Now although he didn’t graduate as a teenager, Drake did have good reason to drop out as he used the money he made from acting to support his family. “My mother was very sick. We were poor, like broke,” he said. “The only money I had coming in was off of Canadian TV, which isn’t that much money when you break it down … A season of Canadian television is under a teacher’s salary, I’ll tell you that much.”
I think it’s awesome that Drake went back after all this time and proved that it’s never too late to get an education. I hope more celebrities follow his example and get their diplomas!

I dont listen to his music but this is good to see someone go back & achieve something! It was good of him to take care of his mother but I’m glad he wasnt neglecting his education.
It’s important for anyone, not just a celebrity to get an education. In fact, I think it’s even more important for celebrities. You’re only as good as your last job & if your contract expires or doesnt get renewed or you lose the ability to do your job, it helps to have back up. In this economy, people damn near retirement age had to go back to school to find new employment so no one is immune from hardship.

I don’t think college is necessarily for everyone, but I do think education is a great think to be a good role model about for young fans so they don’t idealize dropping out when, in fact, 99.99% of people who drop out of high school (well, and those who graduate, too) don’t become famous or rich. But at least with a high school education, getting a job is much more possible.

All I could take away from this post is that Drake is younger than me…and that made me feel weird.

What a gangster. Got shot, became a famous rapper, and finished high school. I did one of those three things. Lol

Good for him.

I used to love watching Degrassi. It’s funny he had all the school experience, without actually going to real school. I’m so happy for him.

Good for him for going back and finishing high school!

So proud of him! Loved him in Degrassi; had no idea his home life was like that. He is an example of what hard work and persistence looks like. Things will only get better for him.

But education isn’t necessarily important… Or, what most people think of as education. When I look back on high school, there is not a good reason that experience needed to take 4 years.

This is a surprise..

lol if you drop out of school because a celebrity did it……you’re not smart enough to be in school anyways
