If you watched the debate last night, you probably remember hearing about Mitt Romney‘s experience with gender pay inequality. For Romney, who has been consistently down in the polls when it comes to female voters, it was his chance to show 50.8 percent of the country that he cared. The businessman and former governor of Massachusetts said he “learned a great deal” about gender pay inequality while building his cabinet, and his response to the question happened to go viral. And I’ve been laughing my ass off all morning.
For those of you who missed the debate, here are Romney’s remarks about gender pay inequality:
And I—and I went to my staff, and I said, ‘How come all the people for these jobs are—are all men.’ They said: ‘Well, these are the people that have the qualifications.’ And I said: ‘Well, gosh, can’t we—can’t we find some—some women that are also qualified?’ And—and so we—we took a concerted effort to go out and find women who had backgrounds that could be qualified to become members of our cabinet. I went to a number of women’s groups and said: ‘Can you help us find folks,’ and they brought us whole binders full of women.
Binders of women. Binders of women.
There is already a Tumblr, Facebook page and Twitter dedicated to binders full of women. It’s definitely enough to keep me chortling all day.
God bless the Internet. Be sure and check out the gallery for some of my favorites!
What do you think about Romney’s remark?

Obama’s female staff are notoriously underpaid compared to male staff. They are also treated with far less respect than their male counter parts.
Look at how Obama made Susan Rice make a fool out of herself on the Libya murders. That went over like a lead balloon so now Obama is now throwing Hillary Clinton under the bus.
Romney’s record with women hires is stellar on the hand. The “binder” is a euphemism for “great quantity.” And Romney’s record shows that he has hired beaucoup women during his career managing businesses.

“The Post said Dunn raised the issue during the 2008 campaign when a TV ad was prepared without featuring a single woman.’The president has a real woman problem. The idea of the boy’s club being just Larry and Rahm isn’t really fair. He (Obama) was just as responsible himself,’ an unnamed high-ranking woman official told the author. The book also reportedly details internal squabbling between Obama’s economic team, among them Summers and Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner.Based on interviews with more than 200 people, the book is being published at a sensitive time for Obama, who is facing the lowest public approval figures of his tenure. However, in an interview today with the Post, Dunn takes issue with Suskind’s depiction of the White House.’It’s a place where there is vigorous discussion back and forth. At various times people have issues with their colleagues, but we were united. I’ve been very clear that this is a president who values a diverse set of voices on every issue,’ she said.”
This just seems like one of those articles with a misleading title, making you think it will be more of a big topic, when really it’s just digging something up from 2008 and trying to make a big stink out of it.
I’m sorry, but you trying to claim Romney has a great track record with women is the funniest thing I’ve heard all week. Notice you don’t have any sources for that. …Then again, he flip flops so much they’re even made an online app where you answer a few questions on your political views and Romney will always agree!

@blackspiders@xanga - The truth is that the Obama White House is hostile to women. It’s documented. Believe it or not.

You realize that Romney didn’t even ask for those women. Back in 2002, before the elections even started, a group of roughly 40 bipartisan organizations did the research and put together that binder, and gave it to Romney after he was elected governor in an effort to end the problem of so few women holding leadership positions. Also, at Bain Capital ~ Romney’s own business ~ only seven women held positions among the other 87 male managing directors and senior execs. And don’t forget that he’s Mormon, where women are expected to stay home, raise children, and answer to the beck and call of their husband.
Romney doesn’t give two shits about women. Never has, never will.

@chronic_masticator@xanga - he get’s nuttier every day.

@plantinthewindow@xanga - At this point I’ve stopped believing that he’s crazy. He’s just a sad, desperate little man who will literally do and say anything to get what he wants, regardless of how many people he hurts along the way.

@blackspiders@xanga -Romney is pandering to the fundamentalists. His background in Mass. was more moderate, but too much is at stake here. The mormons do a bang up job of providing their own welfare system, and that will affect his decision making concerning the poor, and any programs that benefit the poor, and yes, even the children. What you see you don’t necessarily get. And when Congress decides to play ball with the rape card, or ever Roe V. Wade, he’ll be leading the charge. No separation of church and state for this man. His alliances are with his religious beliefs.

Congrats for writing the dumbest thing I’ve read today. I’m honestly not sure what your point is.
