When one thinks of family legacies, usually upholding the magnificence of the family name by re-winning a trophy won in your mother or father’s glory days or wearing prized possession of your great-great grandparents come to mind.
For the women in my family, being a no-nonsense, fashion-savvy, rack-raking, bargain shopper is a skill passed on through generations. My grandmother used to take my mother and her siblings around town every weekend to dig for the holy grail of thrift shopping: the most bang for the least buck.
After years of thrift shopping with my mother and my sister, I still get a thrill from finding a designer name item for more than half the price. Today, I rounded up my most recent purchases from the thrift shops around my way. Check them out!
2. Blouse: Chetta B, $30
3. Mary Janes: Marc by Marc Jacobs, $28
4. Sterling Silver Pearl Flower Necklace: Ann King, $38

I can’t buy anything from a thrift store anymore. I used to a lot when I was kid and I used to find tons of neat things.
Now all I can think is “Where do clothes go when someone dies? To the thrift store.” and I don’t feel comfortable wearing a dead person’s clothes.

I’ve been planning to visit thrift stores since arriving to AZ. I have no problem with buying second hand jewelry. (I have some of my mom’s as well as my great grandmother’s.) clothing is a something that is a bit more picky. As long as it’s in good wear and after a good washing, I don’t see a problem. But I haven’t gone yet due to being busy.

that’s still pretty expensive being thrifty. I used to go on ebay to find vintage clothes/jewelry. I have a few dresses with the “worker’s union” tag on it that looked to be hand sewn and sarah conventry jewelry. Ross has some good deals.

What @P0RCELA1N_D0LL@xanga said. Thats really expensive for “thrift”…or I guess that my price range for *new* things. The jacket is cute, but I’m not a fan of anything else.

I was kind of surprised when I saw the prices seeing as they’re from a thrift store. But still, cute finds, especially the shoes!

Woah, those prices are NOT what I’d say are thrift-store/bargain. Where is this store? It’s nowhere near me haha

@P0RCELA1N_D0LL@xanga - I agree. I usually only choose pricier thrifting for really unique items at specialty thrift stores, but like Value Village or Salvation Army are way cheaper, and I’m sure there’d be items like these.

You must go to a really expensive thrift store…

Even my G/F has agreed the price of ‘thrift stores’ has gone way up. Sometimes she likes to stop by Goodwill and YWCA and says the prices are at least double from last year.
Years ago I worked in a thrift store so I know how they unscrupulously mark things up in there.
I’ve actually found better prices than thrift stores on occasion from Dillard’s and Sear’s, certainly this year.

I love thrift stores, but I agree with the others, these prices are high for a thrift store. They seem more like consignment store prices.

I like the Marc Jacob shoes! ^_^
I feel like thrift stores are hit or miss for me. And if I feel like going through racks of clothes, and then trying them on. I have to be in a shopping mood, and/or motivate myself to do so.

Wow great thrifting finds. I especially was drawn to the shoes and the design of the blouse. I think they’re really good prices for designer name stuff, seeing how a brand new pair of marc jacob shoes would normally set you back at least two hundred dollars.I love thrift stores, I think anything that’s not full price is a pretty good price most of the time but it also depends on the quality and condition of the item.

Love the shoes & that’s the only reasonably (okay, that’s a great price. I’ll pay $30 for a pair of heels & those are Marc Jacobs!) priced thing in my opinion. I don’t like the blazer/jacket or the blouse, so it’s way overpriced to me. I’m curious if you went to some sort of consignment shop. Thrift stores have gotten pretty expensive, but not that outrageous. You can usually find a good brand name something (unless it’s leather ’cause I just encountered Fossil bags/purses for $34.99+ the other day) for no more than $20.

I almost always shop at thrift store. I’m always able to find something either designer or name brand. I love it!
