I will never forget the day I discovered I had freckles. I had just begun to wash my face when I stumbled upon a dot. After scrubbing profusely, I realized I could not get this speck off my face. Naturally, I called for reinforcements (a.k.a. my mother) and was ever so kindly told, “That’s a freckle, you goof!”

Up until that point, the only person I was aware of that had freckles was Lindsay Lohan, and to put it bluntly, she looked nothing like me!

I rushed back to the bathroom and gazed at myself in the mirror as if I was seeing myself for the first time. To my surprise, I found a small cluster of freckles lightly sprinkled on my nose and down my chin, like a dash of cinnamon in a bowl of oatmeal. I instantly took a liking to my new-found flecks because they made me stand out (thankfully in a way that my twice installed braces never did.)

Recently, the ever-evolving fashion industry has made strides to embrace looks that go against the norm, as we’ve seen with the rising number of models with albinism and gapped teeth. In a similar fashion, Los Angeles photographer Reto Kaduff’s photo book “Freckles,” features snapshots of stunningly sun-spotted female subjects.

Without the use of photo shop, Kaduff accentuates the models’ natural beauty effortlessly. But don’t just take my word for it. Check out a gallery of the freckled-faced muses on the page!
