Amidst my busy schedule, I finally found time to catch up with my friend Sam from college. Since she and I are both heading back to our alma mater for Homecoming & Halloween weekend, the conversation naturally gravitated toward our costumes.

Since Sam knows I am the Halloween queen, she asked me for advice on how to put together a clever costume to be the Cheshire cat. As a zoology minor, Sam’s desire to dress as the mischievous character from Alice in Wonderland came as no big surprise.

With a little help from Pinterest and a number of other sites, I was able to give her a couple of tips for a magical, makeshift disguise. Check out my ideas!

First, Sam mentioned she wanted to wear a full body suit that she intended on spray painting purple and pink. As a recently hired American Apparel employee, I recommended one of their suits.

This Unisex Rib Henley One-Piece in “Grape Juice” is not only the perfect color but it also gives the most coverage of all of their body suits. Grab some pink spray paint and go to work, girl!

One creative element Sam wants to incorporate into her costume is the Cheshire cat’s ability to disappear. Considering the memorable scene (shown above) of the cat’s tail dissolving, I threw out the idea of spray painting every other stripe of the tail black. Additionally, I thought she should spray paint the knee to ankle section of the onesie as well to create the illusion.

A generic Halloween party store tail and pair of ears (just waiting to be spray painted) will do.

As for the Cheshire cat’s signature smile, Sam wants to give it a girly twist. The make-up guru in me recommended CoverGirl’s Lip Perfection lipstick in “Spellbound.” It’s blue-pink tint is the perfect pop to the already colorful ensemble.

For eye make-up, I perused Pinterest for some ideas and stumbled across this multi-colored mix that I could recreate for her.

I think CoverGirl’s 4-Kit Eye Enhancers in “Berries and Cream” will do the trick!

Add a pair of platform Mary Jane’s from Forever 21 and Sam, my friend, you’ve got yourself one clever cat costume!

What do you think lovelies? Do you have better recommendations for my friend’s costume?
