Contraceptive ads from the past: blunt, weird, and hilarious! Pulled straight from the archives at the National Institutes of Health, these incredible ads from all over the world date back to the 1960′s. Some of them are amazingly bold, especially considering the way we beat around the bush with terminology these days. Frankly, it’s refreshing to see advertisements that are so blunt and silly. Check out more vintage contraceptive ads below the cut!
Since we are still living in a time where politicians can not say the word “vagina” without considerable backlash, it’s clear that sex and contraceptives are going to continue to be a touchy subject… forever? It’s unfortunate that women are still having to fight for basic, personal healthcare needs but apparently… that’s just how it goes. So, in the meantime, let’s all laugh together at the awkwardness, bluntness and hilarious hairstyles of these vintage contraceptive ads. [via Mother Jones]

3 of these are definitely hilarious. Some of the others you have to put into context. There are parts of the world where women and men don’t know or understand the options they have to prevent unwanted pregnancies.

I LOVE the first one. It basically says if the girl gets pregnant, it’s not just on her. I hate when people act like just because the baby is in the woman’s body, it’s all on her. It takes two to tango!!
