In 1994, Elizabeth Hurley wore this gorgeous Versace safety pin dress while attending the premiere of “Four Weddings And A Funeral” with then-boyfriend Hugh Grant. She looked stunning and the dress caused quite a stir, as it was both innovative and extremely risque. Recently, Lady Gaga was photographed exiting her hotel in Milan wearing an almost identical replica. Who wore it better?

And for comparative purposes, here are some side-by-sides:

I’m not usually one for the “who wore it better” game because everybody brings their own personality to the table with various fashion choices, but I have always thought this to be one of the most amazing red carpet looks since Hurley wore it years and years ago. She reminds me of a modern day Sophia Loren in it.

I think both women wear it gorgeously, but I’m cleaning considerably in Hurley’s favor. This is for three reasons: (1) I think her shoes work much better with the dress, as they soften the bold look and keep the dress center-stage. (2) Her hair does the same; Lady Gaga’s is a bit severe while Hurley’s is fun and, again, maintains the dress’ presence. (3) I’m significantly biased toward fashionistas who don’t take themselves too seriously, and even if Gaga falls into that category, I just end up liking the look of smiling in such a ridiculous, fun, strange gown, so my fondness leans toward Hurley once more. Although I think Gaga’s curves do a lot for the structure of the dress and make it look more “Versace-esque.” That said, they each look individually lovely and I can’t say I’m not excited to find a reason to post this dress.

Lovelies, what do you think about this match?
