16-year-old Whitney Kropp made headlines a couple of weeks ago when her story of being bullied caught many people’s attention. The sophomore student from West Branch, Michigan was nominated to be part of the homecoming court as a cruel joke by other students. Whitney thought about killing herself when she was told that it was all a prank, but after support from her community, she decided to turn the tables and have the last laugh.
After hearing about her story, local businesses decided to support Kropp by donating everything she needed to attend the homecoming game looking beautiful including her dress, jewelry, shoes and even hair styling and makeup.
Whitney was escorted to the field by her father and grandfather while students from the opposing team cheered her on. With a whole new confidence and state of mind, she proudly took her spot with the rest of the homecoming court.
She is spreading a message to other victims of bullying to not let bullies bring them down and to stand up for what they believe in. Whitney showed everyone that the best revenge is showing that you can be happy and rise above the negative that is thrown your way.
What do you think of Whitney’s courage and choice to attend her homecoming game?

We need more stories like these!! This story shows a lot about the positive attitude you need to take against bullies.

I am glad she won.

This really is a beautiful story and I’m so glad that she was able to rise above that. It’s just too bad that not every victim of bullying will have the luxury of their stories making the news resulting in all kinds of donations and support from the community. Sadly most cases go unnoticed.

I hope those shitfaced kids who thought they one upped her felt like crap!! Whitney looks like a nice pretty girl! I don’t see why people are so cruel but most of the time it’s insecurities or jealousy.

Good for her for having the courage to go up on stage to the ceremony. She showed them!

She’s a lot stronger than I would have been!

But…. the town did it for her. She didn’t do anything. I still don’t understand this. I was always taught to stand up to bullies by myself so they’d know that I was strong, not to rely on others… like the whole damn town.

“Their all gonna laugh at you.”
I’m glad for her, but this doesn’t seem like revenge. It’s more like support from her community.

this makes me cry.
she looks so sweet. why would anyone treat her so poorly? wtf

I remember when I was in high school hearing some of the popular girls talking smack about this sweet unpopular girl who had been nominated for homecoming princess. “It’s just a joke, I can’t believe she thinks it’s real.” HOW CRUEL CAN YOU BE? I was worried they were going to do something humiliating to her in public at one of the events but thankfully they didn’t. I’m glad this girl went to her HC game, she IS part of the court. No matter how much the in crowd may claim they did it as a joke, there are still people like me who were rooting for the underdog & voted for her because she’s a good person.

@SexyTall@xanga - The kids nominated her to embarrass her thinking she would run & hide but Whitney decided to show up & prove to them it didnt hurt her. The town supported her

@SexyTall@xanga - They all did it for her as a favor, she didn’t ask for it. Accepting help when it’s offered is okay. And what did she do? She showed up to something that was supposed to humiliate her. That’s pretty brave, if you ask me.

@SexyTall@xanga - what’s wrong with accepting help? You can’t go through life doing everything on your own. It’s okay to accept help and support sometimes.

“… while students from the opposing team cheered her on.”
smile.
this brought an extra big
i’m glad she didn’t go all “carrie” on them, and set the school ablaze with new-found psychic abilities.

Turn their pranks upon them and win anyway! Way to go!!!
And I’m with WillBillBlog@xanga- when the other team’s students cheered her on, that just brought the extra big smile to me, too!

This happened to a girl when I was in High School. I was in student council at the time and that’s who controlled the votes, rumor had it that she had been nominated as a joke, but there was no real evidence. They didn’t even inform the girl that she had been nominated let alone give the girl a choice of what she wanted to do, which upset me. I spoke up and said so, but was over-ruled and to this day I’m not sure if she even knows. I wish she could have had the opportunity to make her own choice.
I admire this girl and the courage that she had to face her bullies, I just wish I could say the same for my former classmate.

The seniors at my school did this last year too… I don’t understand why this made news. Yes its awful, and they shouldn’t be doing shit like this

still its no reason to think about killing yourself.

@SexyTall@xanga - Looks like we got a bad ass over here.
Here’s a thought, how about you NOT be a bitch.

Awwwwwwwww. The picture of her hugging the football player totally got me! :’)

@SexyTall@xanga - Sometime when you feel like no one is there for you, and everyone hates you, you hate yourself just as much as others do. For you to realize that yes, you can do this, sometimes all you need is a little love, and that love was provided by her townspeople. She still had to make the decision to go to homecoming. I’m sure there was a part of her that was still afraid of the bullying that might happen in front of such a crowd anyway.

@gettin_skinnay@xanga - I was stating what I was taught as a child. You’re the rude one here. Calm down.

ugh kids can be so cruel and girls can be especially vicious!
My “best friend” in high school started telling people she wished I’d just commit suicide when she found out I was getting more attention from boys than she was.
I thought I’d left it all behind in high school but I was very surprised to learn that some girls almost in their 30s still try to “diss” you and say things like “look in the mirror cuz ur nose looks like uve been punched several times LOL”. Kid you not, someone said that to me this week! I mean no one’s perfect and everyone’s got their physical flaws, but there’s nothing wrong with my nose lol! Girls REALLY need to start being more secure in themselves and not taking their insecurities out on other girls. And they need to stop talking (and typing!) like they’re still in high school *rolls eyes*
Good on her for spreading the message at school! Can you also spread that message to the older girls that haven’t left their high school ways behind yet?

It’s good she did it and good she got the support too. People tried to prove to her that no one was on her side and loved seeing her alone, while
they
found ‘stregth’ through bullying and belonging. No one (or nearly no one as it seems) had the courage to prevent it, even though it was stupid.
Being shown that people aren’t always on their side too is the best that could to them.

Good for you girl, good for you. *respect*
