When it comes to girls wearing leggings as pants, everyone has a strong opinion. Some girls love it, but others consider leggings super unfashionable.
I used to be one of the girls that never wore leggings. I went to high school in southern California and there’s really not a need for leggings when its 70 degrees year-round. None of my friends wore leggings either, and I honestly had no idea they were even something people my age wore.
My view on leggings completely changed when I went to college. I moved 2,000 miles away to the freezing cold Midwest. At my university, leggings are practically a way of life. I see more girls wearing leggings than jeans. I remained skeptical of leggings as pants throughout my freshman year. I tried wearing them a few times, but I always felt weird. My sophomore year, however, I bought an actual nice pair of leggings and I’ve been hooked ever since.
Now in my junior year, I wear leggings at least a few days a week. They are super comfortable and they keep me warm in the cool fall weather. I’m really tall, so a lot of legging brands are too short on me. However, I found a brand that is long enough and I am now a loyal customer.
I love the versatility that leggings offer. I can wear them with a jacket to class in the morning and then I can dress them up with boots and a scarf and go out to dinner at night. I’ve even gone as far as wearing them to college parties, especially in the winter when it’s twenty degrees outside and I don’t feel like wearing a dress or skirt.
When girls criticize me for wearing leggings as pants, I tell them not to knock it until they’ve tried it. If they try it and still don’t like, then fine, they can have whatever opinion they want. However, it still won’t affect my decisions. Ultimately, it’s my body and if I want to wear leggings as pants, then that’s what I’ll do.
What do you think of girls wearing leggings as pants? Tell me your thoughts in the comments below!

Leggings as pants? Leggings should always cover your ass.

Jeggings…like, the ones that have real pockets and a zipper fly and everything. Problem solved.
I usually wear yoga pants and tennis shoes, but that’s because I give zero fucks and like being comfy. I also go to the gym on campus pretty often and never feel like dragging around a change of clothes because I am lazy.

No. Just no! I don’t want to see nasty camel toe everywhere I look. And the ass eating leggings looks is disgusting too.
guest
I wore leggings as pants today lol. I didn’t have a camel toe because I didn’t pull them up high and my ass was not eating them
guest
I think they are really sexy on girls that are hot.
guest
I think leggings are okay as pants if you have on a longer top, basically long enough to cover your rear. I don’t know if it’s common at all universities but at mine in winter girls wear leggings and nike shorts. This makes no sense and as far as I’m concerned should never be done.

You can replace leggings as jeans or even skinny jeans in ANY of these situations.

as long as there is no camel toe or ass crack showing.

i feel like leggings are used when a a top is too long to be worn as a shirt, but too short to be worn as a dress. if you’re wearing it with a normal top, i judge you because i don’t see how leggings are sufficient. i ALWAYS end up seeing more than i want to because the legging is designed to be thin, therefore it’s practically see through in the rear section. i wear them with long shirts, or dresses if it’s cold. i wear jeans or jeggings (which are thicker and mimic jeans) when i have a normal shirt on.

Leggings as pants is fine IF
1) You wear a pair that actually FITS (i.e. doesn’t cause camel toe due to having to pull them up high enough to cover your ass but then it doesn’t actually fit over your ass, and doesn’t cause serious muffin top)
2) The fabric is THICK i
3) If you choose slightly longer tops (although shorter tops are okay with the right jacket, but the shirt should preferably hit around the middle of your butt or longer).
If you can see your underwear through your leggings because they are so tight and thin, you are doing it wrong. Save those for under dresses or tunics. But I’m fine with leggings as pants when done properly. I am not a huge fan of jeans as my proportions makes it hard for me to find pairs that fit (will be too big in the hips/waist, too tight in the thigh, and either just right or too big in the calf) and that ill-fit will cause them to ride down. I assume that if I can get my thighs down to a slimmer size and thus in proportion to the rest of me jeans will be more comfy… but this is why I also opt for shorts, dresses, and high-waist skirts.

@x0_electric_kiss@xanga - I have two fairly thick pairs through which you cannot see any sign of underwear or skin. And I have 2 other pairs that are slightly thinner but larger and do not stretch out to become thin. So IMO those issues described are due to wearing ill-fitting leggings or ones that are clearly meant for wearing under dresses/skirts (I have a patterned pair for example, clearly not for solo wear).

I live in Vancouver and here, we only get to wear our shorts / skirts for 2 months. Thus, LEGGINGS ARE AWESOME!
i own about 10 pairs and i looove wearing them with my boots and heels, never got why leggings got so much hate to begin with :S
guest
@x0_electric_kiss@xanga - That’s exactly when I wear them! I have rather curvy hips and backside so many things that are considered dresses on other people are far too short on me but they’re still long to be worn with a skirt… enter the leggings.

wore leggings yesterday with a tunic style shirt and shortie shorts. leggings are fun! I would wear them as pants if I wasn’t so pear shaped and thick thighed, leggings as pants look good only on certain shapes to me. I also think if a girl was super super skinny (like anorexic looking) the legging as pants wouldn’t really look right either. Fit is important too. I wear dresses, skirts, or shorts with my leggings.

I’ll skip my opinion because I’m sure I will be attacked for it

h&m and american apparel have the best leggings ive ever found
guest
I’m okay with leggings as pants as long as the material is thick and fits the wearer properly, and that the top (such as a tunic) is long enough to cover the butt and crotch.
guest
I think that as long as leggings (and even skinny jeans) are with mostly tunic styled shirts, dresses, etc, I don’t have an issue with them.
What I do have an issue with is that people seem to think that they can wear normal/regular shirts with leggings. Proportions with leggings and skinny jeans are very important and have to be thought out with. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen girls wear regular tee shirts with leggings that are thin material and/or I could see the girl’s panties.
PROPORTIONS, ladies!!! Know your fabrics!! If in doubt, ask someone!!

I have been wearing leggings as pants since the early 80′s. I own at least 50 pairs (mostly black) so I guess that makes me a leggings junky. To avoid the VPL and camel toe with thinner leggings I wear pantyhose instead of knickers. I won’t give up wearing leggings as pants no matter what people think. I love the comfort and feeling like your not wearing anything at all. Before giving me any rude comments I challenge you to put on a pair of leggings and wear them for day.
guest
@wildchildofthebluemoon@xanga - I was kinda thinking that too, but I also say, wear what you are comfortable wearing…NO One wants to see me in Leggings and nothing else. LMBO But I would wear them under a knee length dress in the winter.
guest
as long as your ass is covered, i couldn’t care less.
guest
Not sheer and covering the ass/crotch. It’s terribly awkward seeing someones whole ass crack….
guest
I like black leggings that cover the entire leg (like the pictures) but I don’t like knee length leggings or patterned ones.
I don’t wear them unless I’m wearing something else that covers my ass, but I do have a pair of leggingish pants that has belt loops and a zipper, etc. and I’m comfortable wearing those with anything.
guest
@blackwizzy@xanga - I do the same!

i wear leggings as pants as long as whatever top i’m wearing covers my ass or at least most of it

I like to see a lot of leggins

Eh. I really don’t get leggings. I can see how they’re acceptable if you live somewhere with lots of crappy cold weather, but in Texas it seems like chicks pull them out for winter/fall and wear them all wrong. I really do not want to see a stranger’s camel toe or ass crack.
I begrudgingly bought a pair of thick ones with a terry cloth kind of lining. They’re nice I guess. I need them for work, for when I do truck and stocking stuff. But I have nothing to wear over them. Everything just makes me feel like I’m revealing too much. They’re thick, opaque, black, but I still feel wrong wearing them.
They will likely be tossed into my closet soon and never be considered again. I’ll just save up for some nice black skinny pants.

where do you get the good leggings for tall people? i always have the too short issue too and i’ve been looking for some!!
guest
Everyone is saying leggings are warm? o_O
the chilly wind goes right through them to my legs in winter and I live in NC where winter isn’t even that bad compared to other states (but I hate the cold so it’s bad enough for me).
I wear them under jeans in the winter for extra warmth, yeah, but definitely not on their own. I think leggings are never ever meant to be pants. It looks awkward as hell to me on other people so I’ve never tried it on myself.
guest
Working in the mall, I can’t even begin to tell you how many girls stroll by thinking that they look good in their legging-pants, oblivious to the fact that under the fluorescent department store lights their entire ass/underwear can be seen.
Also, you should always do the bend test before going in public with leggings – bend over and make sure your ass isn’t visible. SO many girls think they’re safe, then they bend over and you get a good view of a full moon.

i was waiting to express my opinion on this.
i like them, but there is a fine line between the right way and the wrong way to wear leggings. people here wear them as straight up pants… as in the same thing you wear with crop tops and other short, skin tight things. FML. my eyes hurt everyday. these girls show EVERYTHING. the O-N-L-Y way to pull off leggings is pairing it with a top or dress that is capable of covering your butt. crop tops are a huuge nono. please help me.
guest
I always wear it, and while I try to wear longer shirts with it, I don’t particularly care if it doesn’t cover my butt.

@ammitchell - I’ve had luck with the thicker leggings that Nordstrom sells in their teen department. I feel like the thicker leggings tend to be longer than thinner ones.
guest
My tolerance for leggings as pants is primarily based on the figure of the person wearing them. If it accentuates it, not a big deal. However, I always tend to think the wearer would look better in something else. But I’m a guy, so fashion isn’t my thing.
guest
Wear them, but make sure your butt and crotch are covered and that nobody can see your VPL. Also, make sure they’re thick. I saw someone wear tights as pants the other day and you could see everything.

I agree with most of you, leggings as pants are okay if the top is long enough to over your behind but not long enough to be a dress. I do it all the time in Scotland, it’s great especially for slightly chilly summer days over here, or warm fall days.
However, that being said, a lot of people here in Scotland still wear leggings as pants with a normal top and you can see everything. So. DISGUSTING.
guest
Like many other people have said, I would wear leggings as pants if I was wearing a shirt that covered my ass.
I’m actually excited to try this out when I lose a few more pounds. I’m also someone who typically goes for comfort in my clothing. Leggings seem a lot more comfortable than jeans.
guest
all these arguments are invalid since jeans or even jeggings are way warmer than leggings, just as fashionable, have pockets, don’t show camel toe, aren’t fucking see-through (a little tidbit a lot of girls seem to not realize), and are actually meant to be worn as pants. leggings are meant to go underneath clothes, for added warmth. leggings actually let cold air cut right through imo, much much colder than denim. but people will wear what they want, and if they want to be colder, and show off their camel toe/ass crack, then by all means, throw on a pair.
if it’s all about the comfort, try yoga pants (also actually meant to be worn as pants)
guest
I only wear leggings as pants if they’re opaque, and the top I’m wearing covers my butt.
guest
As long as they are thick enough to not be sheer when bending over and you wear a longish shirt I say go for it! Super comfortable and makes wearing boots so much easier
guest
I had to switch over to cotton jeggings over my fitted jeans because of my bladder infection, and I bicycle to work pretty often. I always wear my leggings with tunics or under skirts, just not alone as pants.
HUE actually has some nice jegging brands, with usable pockets! Just check them out.

@seasidehearts@xanga - I wasn’t going to comment since I’m kinda late to this post, but your response caught my attention. Does wearing leggings under jeans really help in the winter? There are a few weeks a year when I have to work outside when it can be uncomfortably cold, and I’ve been thinking about buying a few pairs of leggings to wear under jeans. I just wasn’t sure if they’d make enough difference to bother.
guest
I wear leggings to work because I am not allowed to wear jeans to work unless it’s their brand of jeans (& the jeans don’t fit me there). I make sure to cover up my butt but otherwise, I never understood why people flipped out over girls wearing leggings as pants besides when girls would wear it with short shirts.
guest
I’ve only worn leggings as pants once & it was because I liked the print and my shirt was super stretchy and went down past my bum.
It was really comfy, but I got hit on by people in cars and I was freakin’ walking with my dad at the time >.<
guest
It’s acceptable at my school. Girls do it constantly. It’s cold where I live and I could care less. So haters should suck it cuz YOLO.

@swayXX@xanga - Let’s flash back 20 years ago….leggings were worn as pants. No one gave a flying fuck. Let’s embrace the same attitude here

I was never a huge fan of leggings until I got pregnant. Pregnancy leggings from Old Navy were amazingly comfortable and cheap! They were great for my rapidly expanding waistline and I loved that I didn’t have to buy a ton of new maternity clothes. I just wore my pre pregnancy tunics, dresses and longer shirts on top (so my butt was always covered).

If you have the body to wear leggings then do it rite? Some people is making a big deal out of them do of Men not looking at you . I wear leggings alot to gym around house then also when my husband and I goes out . I usual wear them with a miny skirt so I tease all the men and my husband is the only one that feels my ass in them , but I do pull them up high so my ass does eat them I love the feeling. So women flaut it okay.

I’m a guy, in my opnion no they should not be worn as pants as they can attracts unwanted attention, same goes for short skirts, then when I point out either of these to a girl I get slapped immediately but then I say; ”if you don’t want this sort of attention don’t wear this type of clothing”, to which most people I know cannot argue against. Another thing, I hear the reason for wearing leggings as pants is because girls generally use them as a replacement for sweatpants/joggin bottoms, the 1 reason being, they look better, … I actually can’t get my head around this, why not customise your damn sweatpants/jogging bottoms? Sorry for rambling of topic, I hope I got my point across.
