I guess these filthy rich celebrities have run out of things to buy for each other. Kanye West recently gave his girlfriend, Kim Kardashian, a white Persian cat named Mercy. Since receiving this odd gift, she has been flaunting it everywhere from her twitter and blog pages to her strolls on the sidewalk.
The cat was said to mark the beginning of Kim and Kourtney’s filming of yet another season of their takeover in Miami, Florida. It is also supposed to keep Kim company while she is away from Kanye West.
Although the little ball of fur is adorable, I also find the whole gesture a little ridiculous. First of all, nobody walks around in public with a cat; it’s just weird and unnatural. Second of all, how long can Kim really keep up with a pet? Her schedule is crazy busy and I doubt she will be able to think of anyone else but herself for more than a couple of days.
To each their own. I just feel like this cat is going to be found alone in a hotel room bathroom in the near future.

I would love for my bf to give me a kitten, especially a persian cat.
Personally, I think Kim has more of a “dog personality” (not an insult). I think Kayne is more of a cat person.

I would LOVE a white persian kitten as a gift! A cute pet is one of the best material gifts you can give someone. Nothing odd about it.

Sure, people give puppies more often than kitties, but I wouldn’t say it is odd or unusual. My husband gave me a kitten as a gift…not a Persian one but I still love him. I do think cats are less demanding than a dog, but since a Persian has long hair, it may be a bit of maintenance.

A cat doesn’t fit into her lifestyle very well. Before giving a pet as a gift, you have to prepare. I would be upset if someone gave me a pet as a gift, except maybe a fish…

Cats don’t need a lot of care and she would be a jerk to abandon it! I think it’s fine. If she doesn’t want it, I’m sure one of her familt members will take it.

This isn’t true at all. Some specific breeds actually enjoy riding in cars, going on walks with their human, and otherwise being in public. There’s nothing strange anymore about carrying a dog around in a purse, why hate on doing the same with cats?

It’s not so weird. Boyfriends give their girlfriend’s pets as gifts all the time. I remember begging a now-ex bf to buy me a puppy at one point. I’m sure glad he didn’t. Luckily cats are more independent than dogs, so if she didn’t have so much time, it would be alright. I’m sure she’s rich enough to have someone else take care of it, sadly.

I’d be so happy if someone gave me a cat. How can anything be sweeter? Perhaps Kim just likes cats. …and if it’s too much, I think she’ll find someone to take care of it….she has enough money. It’s not like he gave it to someone who can’t pay for the vet. Unlike dogs, cats are more socially independant. they aren’t very focused on their owner. I don’t think this is irresponsible or anything.
(Even though it’d be sad if she DID abandon it)

I think it’s funny that no one’s realized that Kanye’s song “Mercy” is about a Lamborghini Murcielago, which is Spanish for bat. Therefore, the song and the cat’s name should be spelled, Murci. Christopher Nolan get its though. Why do you think Bruce Wayne tears up Gotham City in every Dark Knight movie driving one?

I don’t even think it’s an odd gift, even non rich people give each other pets as surprising gifts! It’s an adorable cat, and yeah she should be walking that cat around while it’s still a kitten! Her lifestyle though i don’t know if it fits well with the cat? but i don’t know her personally, so i can’t really judge.

@meetmeunderthestars@xanga - it’s a lot easier for a cat to escape from someone’s grip and possibly hurt themselves and almost guaranteed the person holding them. a small dog is pretty easy to overpower and they can’t scratch you to get away. it’s safer and therefore normal, whereas a cat is just plain dangerous to walk around with. especially a kitten, since it doesn’t know kim that well yet and no one can predict its behavior.

@COONBUNNY@xanga - I walk my cat all the time. They make harnesses small enough for him, and he seems to enjoy himself. I understand what you’re saying, but if you take the appropriate breed and raise them from very young to be travel companions, they are every bit as predictable and sociable as dogs. And Soft Paws eliminate them being able to scratch anyone. I’m not familiar with Persian personalities, but my American bobtail has very dog-like behaviors.
The real issue here should be that Kanye bought from a breeder and didn’t adopt.

giving a pet to your bf/gf isn’t odd at all. it’s considered pretty sweet by pretty much everyone, and also its a cat, and they pretty much do what they please, so they’re low maintenance, and don’t need as much attention as dogs. so if shes not with it every second of everyday, it’ll do just fine when she comes home to it.
