I want to raise a toast to GQ — I know firsthand how tricky it is to encourage a man to step up his style, and yet they’ve been doing it for years. The magazine, and other sources like it, are supporting a growing interest in creative men’s fashion. But has your guy missed the memo? Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered!
As a recovering lover of A.J. McLean’s (of The Backstreet Boys fame) huge leather jackets and tiny sunglasses, I’m indebted to this surge in interest. I give it all the credit for my improved taste when it comes to fine, young gentlemen.
I understand that not everyone can get on Ryan Gosling’s level, but there’s something to be said for a guy that puts in a little effort. To me, it means he pays attention to details, and that’s never a bad trait in potential mates! I mean, if I try hard, so should the lad I’m seeing, right?
Give me a bowtie over basketball shorts anyday.
With that said, I definitely went overboard on the gallery below. But I can’t help it, I just love all the different styles boys are rocking today!
What style do you Lovelies like on your boys?

I think that if a guy is out of basketball shorts and in a half way decent pair of jeans and a half way decent tee, I’m good. I like guys who puts some effort into his look but doesn’t over think it. And I personally don’t think basketball shorts are something to wear outside of the gym or a home. But that’s just me. Fashion is for the individual.

I don’t quite like the purpose (or maybe it’s just the title that might have been edited) of this post. If you need to inspire and force your ideas onto your boyfriend, I think he’d be happier wearing what he feels most comfortable in. If he comes to you for help and an opinion, that’s a completely different story, but the majority of men don’t do that.

Even if I were in my 20s, I wouldn’t want my boyfriend to wear any of this stuff unless he already did.

My boyfriend does a pretty good job of dressing himself. As long as he’s clean and happy I’m happy.

I could go for most of these. The yellow pants probably not, and the jacket in the same photo looks kind of ragged and loose and makes his legs look like sticks by comparison. Both my ex girlfriends told me I should dress better, but I choose not to spend much money on clothes and yes, lots of my clothes now have paint and stains because I worked outside and painted a lot. The only other thing (oh, and why all the cuffing?) I object to is a blazer and jeans. I imagine one could find more casual pants without going all the way to jeans territory; maybe it’s because I associate jeans with needing a more durable fabric, but then wearing a coat likely to rip with any snag.

should be retitled “how to inspire your boyfriend to be hipster”

i have a guy friend who dresses like that already.. i think it looks nice. i think he’s the only person i know who dresses like that. my bf doesn’t dress like that, but i dont think i would like him any more if he did. i guess if the guy already dresses like that, then it’s cool haha

Luckily, I’m with a guy who is very well-put with his personal style. He likes his blazer and fitted pants…he never walks out with in sweats. But of course, him in nothing is definitely the best

Why can’t people accept their partners for who they are? I mean, my boyfriend dresses pretty nicely anyway, but I wouldn’t dream of trying to change his style or anything.

WHY DO THEY ALL HATE SOCKS?
Seriously though, hipster-formal annoys me. Jeans and a sportsjacket? No. Either wear a suit or don’t, and if you’re going to go with a blazer, learn to tie a windsor. They look like they were dressed by their 13 year old baby sisters.
Also denim jackets only look not-white-trash when they are on the aforementioned Ryan Gosling. Please let them die in peace.

i’m feelin’ all these outfits.. and you’re pretty!

If I wanted to date a hipster I guess. These guys look sharp, but my short, stout Mexican husband would look absurd in any of these. I find him most attractive when he dresses in a way that HE feels good- which usually includes cowboy boots and some embroidered button down.

(also, real concern- loafers minus socks equals seriously stinky shoes and feet)

@Endrath@xanga - Actually I don’t have a problem with a guy wearing jeans and a sportjacket for dressy casual occasions. Suits aren’t appropriate for all occasions and neither are t-shirts.

I read this post to see if it included any vests…. because I want one. I don’t really care about what men wear (I’m gay).
But yeah, I like most of these looks.

What terrible, terrible looks.
Also, what terrible, terrible sexism in both directions (a] a man can’t dress himself, and b] women need to care how their boyfriends dress).
