Lady Gaga is a huge advocate for self-acceptance, and has endlessly campaigned against bullying and bigotry. But now Gaga herself is on the receiving end of some harsh marks after recently gaining some weight. No less than three articles I came across were calling her fat, and it seems that plenty of people want to shame the pop star for her new figure. So how did this happen, and what does she think about it?
Gaga revealed that she’s gained about 25 pounds, but she doesn’t seem to mind. In fact, it sounds like the pop star has been enjoying some of the more delicious culinary aspects of life. (And, really, isn’t that what we all should do? Food is so awesome.) In one recent interview, she spoke candidly about putting on a few pounds:
…I really don’t feel bad about it, not even for a second. I have to be on such a strict diet constantly. It’s hard because it’s a quite vigorous show, so I tend to bulk up, get muscular, and I really don’t like that. So I’m trying to find a new balance…I love eating pasta and pizza. I’m a New York Italian girl.”
Hell yes, Gaga. While she wasn’t skin and bones before, it’s nice to see a non-thin celebrity take the stage…and not apologize for it. Whether or not she loses the weight, Gaga gets mad props for being so open and accepting of her new figure. And this is my cue to go have some spaghetti for lunch. [via Huffington Post]
What do you think about Gaga’s weight gain? What about her reaction to it?

Really sick of the whole weight issue. Why can’t anybody just let it be what it is? She wears her weight well anyway.

@MomWithoutaMinivan@xanga - I agree with you! for a while it seemed like she was getting a bit too skinny & people were worried. Weight is a never ending battle & no one really loses or wins.

You summed my thoughts up quite well- “Hell yes, Gaga”

jeez didnt realize how much weight she put on but longs she happy and healthy and comfy in her own skin thats all matters xx

It’s her body.
I don’t see the issue.

She gained very fast (or gains, it may not be over), and even if she seems to be ok with it, it is not a good health sign. Picture in march and picture in july are really… astonishing.
Otherwise, doesn’t matter for me, it’s her body. (an some of her provocation are really annoying, especcialy concerning animal rights -fur,skin- meat…-).

@Nele - Agree with this pretty much. And flame me if you want, I don’t think she looks good with this added weight. You don’t need to be on a STRICT diet to maintain a good weight and overall health (unless this is something prescribed by a doctor/nutritionist based on a specific ailment that prevents successful weight loss by more conventional means) and being muscular is fine. Keep eating the pasta… just don’t eat the whole box in one sitting.
guest
@ashleynicole - I totally agree with you. She doesn’t look good in these photos.
There is a happy medium between forcing your body to be thinner than it should be and gorging on pizza and pasta because it taste good. In general, I wish people would focus more on talent than looks. It’s her body and she can react however she wants. I understand her not wanting to have to be skinny, but gorging on pasta is not the answer to that pressure.
guest
she looks just fine to me. let the girl eat. leave her body alone.

I admire her so much! I put on 30-40 pounds in a year and a half, and I’ve been having issues with my self-confidence! Seeing her in these pics (where her body shape resembles what mine looks like now), and knowing that she’s so confident in herself, gives me much more confidence! She’s so beautiful!
guest
I’m not sure what you’re asking us here. Do I think it looks as good? No. Do I care? No. Should she care what I think about it? No.
So. *shrugs*
guest
Not sure how tall she is, but unless she’s super short that looks more than 25lbs. Though those pictures could be completely different than the weight she was referring to when she said she gained. Aaaaannnyyway, before she got famous or whatever she was decently sized, so she’s just gone back towards her original self. Which is good. She might want to change her costumes, because they don’t really seem to flatter her at all. Though from what I gather about her I don’t think she’s ever cared how people perceive her.

There is nothing self-righteous or admirable about gaining unhealthy weight to the point where you are overweight. While striving to be ridiculously skinny has been a huge issue mainstream, obesity or even being plain overweight is not healthy for your body either, and putting on unhealthy pounds should not be applauded, and being overweight should not be defended. Eat whatever you want, just eat in moderate proportions and exercise regularly. I am sick of the world defending fatness. I understand that body image issues due to being teased about being too fat have been detrimental in this world, but that doesn’t excuse unhealthy being. Sorry. And thin people getting teased is just as hurtful if not more.

Wow. I’m not even a Lady Gaga fan, but I commend her for not giving a shit what people think. *claps* And to me? I think that it’s mostly in her thighs/hips. And hell, it doesn’t even look that bad. She actually looks like she has more shape to her now, rather than being a damn twig. People got it so twisted in Hollywood anyway….. you gotta weigh 100lbs or less to be considered “skinny.” Oh, but if you get too skinny, now you have an eating disorder! And if you gain weight? You’re a fat ass….. -___- Do these people forget that we women have HIPS?? And CURVES? Not to mention what pregnancy can do too. It’s kinda hard to stay where they want us to, when we’ve got those things that define our shapes. Gets on my nerves a bit…..

Even if she was unhappy or bothered by the weight gain, of course she would say she isn’t. She’s a celebrity, role model to some, who is always telling others to not care what people say and to be themselves. She’d be a hypocrite to not do the same.
Not saying she IS uncomfortable with it, just mentioning a possibility.
guest
Having a strict diet slows down your metabolism & she has confessed to being bulimic in the past, so her quick weight gain seems totally normal to me(under her circumstances anyway) I just hope she doesn’t go back to disordered eating & remains healthy in both mind and body.
guest
@bamzilicious26@xanga - My problem here is that she is not overweight or obese & yet somehow her gaining a healthy amount of weight is promoting poor health? honey before she was too thin and nobody said she was promoting poor health then, but now she gains an healthy amount of weight and suddenly she’s promoting obesity? give me a break (but, than again Lady gaga has never really been a good role model for health either; she confessed to being bulimic before and having too strict a diet can slow down your metabolism, so her quick weight gain just makes sense to me)
I hope I didn’t come off as rude, I just wanted to clear up a few things. I am not a lady gaga supporter, but I approve of body acceptance because once you accept yourself you’re more likely to take care of yourself a lot better (in my experience anyway)
Have a wonderful day!

@JusticeCho@xanga - actually if you look at pictures of her even around 2006ish she was about the same weight as she was post-Just Dace. Just less muscular.
@bamzilicious26@xanga - TBH I agree with this – and I think the reason I agree with this is because I used to be heavy (200lbs at 5’7″, ALL fat.. but I was also very unhealthy and unfit to the point where walking up one set of stairs made me sweat). I’m now usually between 140-150 and I am aiming to get closer to 130-140 but with a nicely muscular build. I also advocate eating in moderation and proper portions… which I do have issues with sometimes, habits be hard to break
guest
i don’t think she’s advocating people going out and gorging themselves, but just being realistic, and eating (in moderation) what you want to eat is a great thing! I’ve read a lot of articles that outline how crazy restrictive the diets are that “super stars” conform to in order to stay “stick thin” and I applaud her for trying to find a balance and be happy. It’s really admirable.
guest
They took the most unflattering, awkward shot of her ever. If she gained 25 lbs, she’s probably only 125 lbs at 5’1 which is still a healthy weight. I bet she looks fine if they wouldn’t catch her in a awkward pose
guest
if you ask me, she NEEDED to gain the weight. she was disgustingly skinny in her ‘born this way’ music vid. now she can get curvy and look hot.

Fuck yeah good for her!
guest
She looks terrible, and i don’t think she really is proud of it, but she has to make it seem like she isn’t fazed by it otherwise people will call her a hypocrite. But she doesn’t sell her music by flaunting her body like most pop stars nowadays so it doesn’t really matter how much weight she gain; it’d just be covered by her crazy outfits.

@Nele - I don’t really see a problem with how fast she gained weight; my family has weight like that. I was 122 a mere month ago, and now I’m at 128 (which isn’t good because I’m really short >.<
@ashleynicole - I don’t think she looks good either, but -I- need to be on a pretty constricted diet to not gain weight (or raise my horribly high triglycerides), so I don’t really agree with that part of your statement. It’s possible that she’s actually built to be a bit bigger than she’s been at her current age, so I wouldn’t discount that. Plus, Gaga and I are around the same height (short!), so the weight shows more.
@bamzilicious26@xanga - I actually don’t think she’s hit overweight yet. She’s apparently 5’1″ and when you’re that short, gaining 25 pounds to say, 110 or less, looks balloonish. And in her quote, she just seems to be advocating eating what you want. She also makes it seem like she was strictly off carbs before this weight gain, and now she gets to eat them again.

@xsPoNgEs_go_SQUISHx13@xanga - Your issue is a sign of some type of medical issue outside of simply “I’m eating way too much McDonalds” and hence falls under the “specific ailment that prevents successful weight loss by more conventional means” I mentioned in my comment.
Also, 6 pounds of weight gain in a month isn’t much – my weight fluctuates ~3lbs DAILY. Food in your system, water retention, clothing, these all contribute to how much you weigh and will change during the day and thus can affect your weight a bit. I can easily lose up to 2 pounds just by going poo.
rose / 960 posts
@ashleynicole - I know, but you didn’t seem to be considering that this might be the same type of deal with Gaga. Which, since we don’t know that much about her body other than how it looks, is very possible.
It is if you weight yourself naked all the time and have (allegedly) one of the most efficient weight scale models out there. Usually my weight only goes up and down a few ounces, maybe a pound per week. 6 pounds, real pounds that I can feel and didn’t go away a few days after I got back into my old diet and exercise routine, is faster than normal. My family pulls out all the stops on this shit -.-”

yeaahh, was thinking the same thing. I actually began to think these were fake, but idk. lol

It’s not about whether she is fat or not, it’s about health. Gaining 25 pounds is really unhealthy, can lead to heart problems and diabetes and even more health issues. Especially if she continues to yo-yo with her body. Being muscular isn’t a bad thing either, in fact it is great for your body b/c it promotes better posture and healthier bones. So while all these women are all “Ya, she’s not a stick! You go girl for being chunky” the fact of the matter is that she’s hurting herself. We need to stop being all “fat is beautiful” and all that jazz. Fat isn’t beautiful, it’s unhealthy ok. Being stick thin with no fat or muscle is just as unhealthy. We should praise her for being fit and strive to be just as healthy and strong. Eat whatever you want but also go run 10 miles and lift some weights and stop bitching about how people need to accept that we are fat. No, I won’t accept fat. IT’s lazy, unhealthy, and a strain on society when fat people get sick.
She doesn’t look great. She looks unhealthy and gross. She should get into shape and stay in shape and be a role model for a healthy lifestyle.
guest
she’s happy with herself and that’s all that matters, she’s in some sense a role model for the new generation. yes, she can be risque at times, but she’s an amazing figure for self acceptance and loving yourself. fuck what someone else thinks if they can’t understand that someone famous is actually happy with their bodies.

blame food and people who created food, not the person lmfao. everyone is backwards.

In the first picture she looks like Humpty Dumpty in drag.

@Rebekka Wilkinson@facebook - I’m sure her perfume ad pictures were photoshopped, then, to not show any weight gain.
Considering that I heard at one point she wasn’t really eating, this is probably good health-wise. But yeah, people need to stop harassing her (and Christina Aguilera and Jessica Simpson) about weight. It’s getting old and it makes people come off as dickheads. Good for her shrugging off the criticism.
guest
I dunno – if she really was bulimic I find it hard to believe that she doesn’t really care “not even for a second.” Maybe she’s learning to deal with it and accept it, but I don’t see how someone who had a true eating disorder can just go to not caring at all about gaining 25 lbs.
Also, there’s nothing wrong with gaining a little weight, but the rapid way she gained it just suggests to me that she still doesn’t have control over her eating.
guest
Most of these so called “fat” pictures are photo shopped. Littlemonsters.com reveals that. I only saw her like 2 weeks ago, and she was still tiny as can be, if anything I thought she needed to gain some more. @Rebekka Wilkinson@facebook -
Though this is besides the point, isn’t this the same media that published “media causing eating disorders”. This is a real fucked up society, and tbh, it’s getting old, boring, and I am tired of caring and hearing this shit. Self acceptance all the way. Mother monster

Lady Gaga is a beautiful genius. Her weight is irrelevant. Her heart and intentions make her perfect no matter what she weighs.
guest
I really really really dislike her…maybe add in 1 more really and I think we have it right! However good for her. Who gives a shit if she gained weight? Do people not have anything better to do with their lives? Most women complain they are not skinny but they are fat so who would those people be to judge, say you are skin and bones and judging her, how does a person gaining weight effect your life? GROW UP!!!!!

get a life.

I don’t mind the weight gain. It’s natural and probably healthy for her. What I mind is that she’s wearing clothes that aren’t suited for someone who did gain 25 pounds.
