Oh man… There are really no words for this. And I think we should all send this woman a friggin’ huge muffin basket.
Before we get all up and arms about this, I have to say that Valeria Sprull proved that her dad and her late husband were one and the same using DNA testing. So this event is real. In the words of Kathy Griffin, “It HAPPENED!”
Here’s the story: Apparently Valeria’s dad hooked up with her mother when she was 15 years old. And when he met up with Valeria later on, he may or may not have known that she was his daughter (apparently he never mentioned the possibility to her). A different article I found about this story reveals some things that make the story even more f*cked up (if that’s even possible!): Apparently a lot of people in her town knew about the true nature of her relationship with her husband, but no one said anything about it. And this is after this lady grew up thinking her real-life grandfather was her father, and that a family friend was her mother. She eventually made amends with her mom, but still! Muffin baskets right now, people!!!
I’ll be honest here: I lost my dad three years ago. He and my mom were very young parents (I was born when my mom was 20 and my dad was 21, and my three brothers were born after that). And while I’ve certainly dated older men (which is something I think every lady should do), at this point in my life I wouldn’t consider dating a guy 20 years my senior. And if my dad was still alive, I’d certainly see all guys in that age group as too similar to my dad for me to be interested in them. Valeria didn’t have that option, and probably won’t go for older men in the same way again. My heart goes out to her.

What’s your reaction to this story? Do you think this happens as rarely as people usually assume?

“What’s your reaction to this story?”
That’s neat.
“Do you think this happens as rarely as people usually assume?”
Not at all.

This woman lives in my area so it’s been flooding my paper, the radio, etc.
I wish we knew how they met each other, though. Like, at work or church or some other event? Did the father really have the intention to date a daughter of his? The article in my paper, the Akron Beacon Journal, didn’t touch on how they met, which to me is a big thing to know.

I’ll take a wild guess and say that this “small town” where said events occurred was located somewhere down South.
YES! I made a horrible, regionalist joke! Muahahahaha!
Did this couple have any children? That’s what I want to know.

@phoebester@xanga - It was actually in Ohio. She has three kids but they may or may not be her Father’s.

someone just decided to fuck with this ladies life and the “father/ husband” should of freakin known. when you meet people you talk about friends, family and most important your past!!!!!!!
the town itself is just wrong for not saying anything to her. they are just a guilty.. for knowing but not saying anything. people could be so cruel.
