After months of anticipation, the final American Idol judges have finally been chosen! Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban will sit on the judges panel alongside Mariah Carey and Randy Jackson when season 12 of the singing competition show premieres in January.
Urban seems like a logical choice to me. He’s a super-successful singer and very likeable. “It’s really an honor to have been invited to be a part of the American Idol family,” he says about joining the show. “I’m looking forward to working with everyone and to seeing the same passion that I have for music in all of the participants.”
Minaj, on the other hand, seems like an odd choice to me because she’s a little out there for the family-friendly show. However, I do think she’ll be extremely entertaining and I’m looking forward to see what she brings to the table.
I’m happy producers decided to get rid of Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler because they were getting repetitive. According to Tyler, everything was “beautiful”, and Lopez looked pretty but I don’t feel as though she brought much else to the table. All of the new judges are extremely different, and I think this will be an advantage to the show. Carey is a singing legend, while Urban is a huge star in the country music world and Minaj in the hip-hop world. I’m hoping their varying experiences and personalities will be beneficial to contestants and entertaining to watch.
Do you think Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban will be good American Idol judges? Are you excited for the new season? Tell me in the comments!

I don’t think Nicki Minaj was the right choice. But then again, I’d rather wait to see what she could be like as a judge. Britney Spears ended up being more honest about the auditions. I’m also hoping that American Idol won’t let any of the judges perform as much as they let Jennifer Lopez.

I was a fan of Jennifer Lopez’s judging. I thought she knew how to properly critique the contestants. I loved Steven Tyler just cuz he always looked lost lol.
I’m happy they kept Randy, Mariah Carey will be interesting to watch being she’s a diva. I’ve always loved her music though. Keith Urban’s seems right as well because he’s been in the business for a while as well. I respect Nicki Minaj, but I think she’s just bleh as a judge; kinda like when Ellen was a judge.

Nicki Minaj can’t possibly be a judge of talent when she has none.

@ninetailedevee@xanga - BINGO! That hack has no right to judge ANYONE’s talent. I hope the show tanks. I mean, who in their right mind would allow such a talentless hype machine to judge their actual singing talent? It makes no sense.
