A professional matchmaker with cotton candy hair and eye-candy style? Girl crush alert! Meet Amy Van Doran, a girl with a lot of recent press and it is no surprise as to why. Aside from being a style queen, she also makes love happen on a daily basis. She puts you in her Rolodex, gives you personalized love advice, and invites you to her bangin’ social mixer parties so you can meet up with people just as lovely as you! I had the pleasure of interviewing miss Amy Doran and learned a lot about love and style from the matchmaking queen herself:
Q: Hi Amy! From the looks of your Facebook, it seems like you get dressed up in adorable outfits and have lots of fun for a living. Is that true?
Oh, I am so glad it looks like I am having fun. It’s probably more work then I let on, but it’s work I love. The greatest thing about being a matchmaker is it’s my job to make new friends! I think the wacky outfits are a great ice breaker for meeting new people.
Q: What’s a day in the life of a matchmaker?
During the day, I have people come visit my office. I interview matches, clients, and give feedback and coaching to current clients. At night, I go out to all kinds of parties and art openings to meet new people. I also throw a lot of parties for my clients, so that they might be able to organically meet the person that they are looking for.
Q: Do you have any tips on making love last? Why do you think so many relationships fail?
I think that the key to making love last, is to not approach love as something that happens to you, like falling in love, but rather something that you do. I personally would never want to fall into anything! I think relationships often fail because we forget to put in the work.
Q: Do you have a success rate for your clients? Have you ever had a client you could not help?
I am very careful to only take on clients that I am inspired by, and are amazing. I would never take on a client that I couldn’t help.
Q: Have you noticed any problematic patterns in men and women’s approach to dating?
Where do I start! As a feminist matchmaker, one of the most interesting things to observe is the constant re-negotiating between the gender roles. Today, there is so much freedom, which is amazing, we get to choose who we date, if we want to get married, have kids, etc. This is all good news, however with all these options, means a lot more confusion.
Q: You have amazing style! Who are your style inspirations?
Thanks! My style inspirations are always kind of bold, interesting and expressive women. I love Isabella Blow, Iris Apfel, Anna Piaggi, Anna Dello Russo, Peggy Guggenheim, and Elsa Schiaparelli.
Q: Where do you like to shop?
My favorite places to shop, any and everywhere! The street, vintage stores, flea markets, and small designers. At the moment I really like, Mandate of Heaven. They do the cutest 60‘s inspired jumpsuits made to order.
Q: Do you have any love or style wisdom to share with the Lovelyish readers?
Never forget to enjoy yourself, after all nobody is going to enjoy your life for you!
Lovelies, would you visit Amy Doran for help in the love department?

Throwing parties and get togethers for friends to meet friends and possibly find love sounds like a lot of fun! I’m sure it’s a lot harder than it seems. I’ve played matchmaker several times but am still unsuccessful.
Maybe I just need to throw a fun get together with all my single friends and see who naturally gravitates toward each other.
