Angelina Jolie is, in my opinion (and a few million other people’s), one of the most lovely women in the world. I think she has done some incredible acting in films like Girl, Interrupted, Foxfire and Gia. She’s also a continuously doing the humanitarian work I wish all celebrities would use their fame and money for, as well as (again in my opinion) setting a good example for the world by opting for adoption. Yesterday, she met with Turkish leaders regarding the present crisis in Syria. Later, she was photographed wearing a very flow-y dress that has been considered reminiscent of her role in Maleficent.
While I love her simple hair and makeup, and she looks as gorgeous as ever, I sort of hate this dress. I don’t think it’s particularly flattering and it sort of reminds me of a discount Halloween store’s version of Ravenclaw’s robes or graduation garments. The way it clings to her legs so much while she walks sort of makes it looks like a creepy water disturbance. Even if she was going for a more modest look while abroad, there are many more options that may have worked better. So although my instinct tells me that she can do no wrong, I’m not a fan of this.
So Lovelies, what’s the verdict? Is this a hit or a big navy no-no?

Didn’t really hide her figure, did it?

Middle Eastern countries and surrounding countries are much more conservative than what we consider conservative here in the US. It’s considered respectful when women like how Angelina Jolie are dressed as pictured. Sometimes it needs to be done for the country’s beliefs, culture and lifestyle rather than fashion. She probably could have done it differently. But it’s better to err on the side of caution rather than have a whole country in turmoil over the way you came dressed. The US has enough to worry about over some YouTube video than what Angelina Jolie wore for a meeting with Turkey.

@Proud2B2003@xanga - Totally agreed, which I definitely took into account! That’s why I said many options may have looked better while still being conservative

@Proud2B2003@xanga - I agree with your comment fully. I just feel the problem with this dress is as the wind blows against the direction of her walking, you see her silhouette that doesn’t leave much to the imagination, so it seems as it defeats the purpose of covering herself up. You know what I mean?

I would like to see how it looks with her just standing still though, seems like it might be pretty interesting in a stationary position, agreed that it doesn’t look all that great while she’s walking or walking against the wind though.

@pick_my_friggin_nose – I completely agree with you. This dress has no structure whatsoever. And it shows that even women with rocking bodies like Angelina need to keep cut in mind when wearing clothing. When I look at it as a piece of fashion, she could have done so much better.

@samescobar – And I think that as a fashion forward woman/style icon, fully knowing she has money and access to people who could have styled her and/or helped, she could have done so much better!!

It’s ironic how so many people compliment a lot of celebrities saying they can wear a garbage bag and still rock it, but then when they’re wearing something unconventional, it becomes a miss.
What???

Is she broke?

Its an awkward outfit to wear unless if she’s wearing it as a Halloween costume or cosplay at a convention center/event for animated characters. As for red carpet events…it just won’t work. Though one way to make it work is to wear something inspired by Malefiicent’s robe without making it appear too costum-y and maybe add some accessories that will work with it.

We need t wait until we could see the final result in the film. But… after the PERFECT “theron-Ravena” from the last Snow White (and the huntsman), concerning dress… it can be hard to reach the level.

If you’re going for modest, wouldn’t you wear something a bit less conspicuous? There aren’t many places you could go in the world where this dress wouldn’t get you noticed, except maybe for a Halloween party, where she really wouldn’t stand out at all. Also, while I don’t know exactly what the dress code for women is in Turkey, isn’t this dress just a little too clingy to really meet with their approval? I’ve seen how a lot of the women dress in the Middle East, and you can’t even really tell there’s a body underneath all that.

too cool. flying squirrel dress! it would be more appealing if it was a different color and with chiffon batwing sleeves than the same fabric.

Blurgh. But damn she is still so hot!

she wears a lot of black clothes and is extremely slim. She can get away with wearing just about anything she wants. I think a lot of people are jealous of her bec. she’s with B. Pitt. I have read she gives a large percentage of her income yearly to charities so I applaud her for this.

Modesty didn’t really come through in dressing herself in this attire. She’d be best suited wearing what they would in that country and sprucing it up to uphold her fashion style. Dressing like a flying Sugar Glider wasn’t exactly an ideal way to pull off either: Reserved look or Fashionista. I’m pretty sure with all her resources, she could have had a better designer to pick something better suited for the occassion and body type. Generally speaking, she has better outfit choice, but we can’t exactly say that all her outfit choices are the best. I’m sure she’s been posted on ‘What Not to Wear’ or ‘Fashion Police’ a number of times!

Yeah, modesty doesn’t mean an awkward black robe. I saw many women manage to dress modestly and still look really fashionable when I was in Egypt for 4 months, especially with making their hijabs coordinate with their outfit.
Anyway, my point is being in a Middle Eastern country doesn’t mean you should dress in badly. Like, I kinda did (I had some colorful Amish thing going on), but dress badly in the US too.

This kind of makes me think of Renaissance festival clothing. Fabric is a little on the thin side though.
