Tired of people talking and texting during movies? Want to do more than just giving them dirty looks or emitting a loud “shhh”? Then volunteer to be a movie ninja! One London theater is offering people free tickets to people who will dress in black bodysuits and pop out on rude moviegoers. So is this program creepy or awesome?
According to the source, these masked crusaders hide out in the shadows looking out for impolite patrons. If the volunteers see any shenanigans, they jump out and lecture the moviegoers. Though it may seem creepy, people seem to like the service…even the ones who get reprimanded:
I normally hate noisy people in cinemas, but I got a call from my friend just as the movie started and thought I could get away with taking it,” one man said. “The last thing I expected was two completely blacked-out people suddenly appearing by our seats and give me and my mates a warning to shut up. It was actually pretty terrifying at first, but then I realised it was a bit of a laugh and a great way to make it clear what I was doing was having an impact on those around me. It certainly made me hang up and shut up for the rest of the film.”
Well, it looks like the program works! I certainly wouldn’t mind seeing it implemented in Austin theaters! Though I can’t imagine it’s fun for volunteers to watch Madagascar 3 over and over all day. [via Bloody Disgusting]
What do you think of this program? Do you want to see it in your theater?

Also, imagine watching a scary movie while this happens lol. I never use my phone at the theaters because it pisses me off when the person infront of me is using their phone and its literally right in my face… It’s rude :/

I find that hilarious lol

@bbanmen420@xanga - this. that would be so awesome.
Clearly, I find this hilarious.

Haha, love it. Last time I went to see a movie, there was a huge group of obnoxious pre-teens that were constantly laughing, talking and running up and down the stairs… I was so furious and annoyed >:l.

I think that groups of loud teenagers all giggling and chatting or people constantly using their phone can be annoying, but I wouldn’t want to get lectured by a random person in a morph suit if I decide to whisper something to my boyfriend or whatever. Cinemas just have that kind of atmosphere, if you don’t like it then wait for the film to come out on dvd and watch it by yourself.

They don’t have voicemail on phones in Korea. You’ll often hear the phone vibrating and then because the other caller doesn’t just hang up but keeps calling until someone answers, the person will answer the phone, say they’re in a movie, and then hang up.
I watched a movie last week where this happened to both people sitting on either side of me. It’s annoying and distracting. But I think a simple “turn off your phone completely” (a policy they do not have) would be sufficient enough.

Normally I would find this pretty funny and I too get incredibly annoyed by obnoxious people who won’t stop being disruptive in the theater. But what if there are people who have anxiety or really have been assaulted or kidnapped before? Granted, I’m sure that the ninjas don’t really touch the movie-viewers like what is shown in the above picture, but it’s still scary, a masked person coming out of nowhere at you in the dark. For many this could be taken as an innocent joke, but for some it may not be a joke and only end up freaking them out and putting them into a panic :-/ Just saying. There is such a thing as a joke going too far and being too personal.

I think its hilarious but I think people (namely, teenage boys) would probably be disruptive on purpose just to see the people and pick fights with them…

Oh me, oh my…. I’d LOVE TO DO THIS!!!

In America, this is a lawsuit.
Yea, we live in a sad, paranoid country.

Woah, that is bizarre ! I can see the ninjas losing a few fingers from angry patrons teeth, or someone may try and sue and say they, ‘did not have permission’ to touch them or some such junk.
We live in odd times. If the Movie Ninjas work, good, but I think someone is going to challenge that authority, as all people challenge over time anything that restricts them, unfortunately. Φ ≡
Thanks for the article, Akinnison !
