You might remember a few months ago, we did a post on Cassandra Bankson. A teen who has been plagued with acne since age 9, she became Internet famous for her sans-makeup YouTube video showing how to get a flawless face despite having severe acne (in case you missed it, I posted the video below). Since she made the tutorial, the video has gotten 45 million views, she has been featured in several magazines and modeled for Sephora and Hourglass Cosmetics.
Things just got better for the 19-year-old. Cassandra was asked to walk the runway during New York Fashion Week as part of Stacey Igel’s “Boy meets girl” show. This girl stepped out her comfort zone and shared her “flaws” with the world, reminding us all that no one is perfect.. but you can’t let it get you down. I would say it paid off.

What do you think about Cassandra getting a chance to walk the runway at NYFW?

definitely cool. I wish I had her video when I was in Jr. high. My skin was pretty bad.

She definitely knows her makeup.

I think its effing amazing that she got to walk the runway at NYFW. However with acne that severe, and having read the original post. Why did not she, or her parents go to a dermatologist and get specialized acne treatment. Should not her parents care enough to help treat her medical problems, and should she not treat the acne because at that severe level it is a medical problem. Why paint over it, when you could be fixing it.

Good for her

I have mixed feelings about her. While I thought it was cool that she bared her naked face on the original makeup video, I really don’t like how she gives medically unsound advice to other people regarding acne on her other videos. She really should just focus on fixing her own skin problem instead of informing people how to fix theirs. It’s not surprising she was picked to model for the runway considering she has the body for it; it’d be much more surprising if she was picked for a skin ad (that isn’t acne related).

well, why not! but whoever gave her the chance also knows that people love stories like this one. Not that she can’t be a good model, but why else would they choose her, when there are tons of girls with experience in modelling.

This makes me wonder for some reason whether acne is a turn-on or a turn-off in the lesbian community. I also don’t know about gay men, because there is this whole Chelsea boy thing about looking really, really good, as if they stepped out of the pages of GQ magazine and being fat, being a bear, being a transvestite, those gay male looks are all pigeonholed into subcultures so maybe they have a separate bar night for zits. I think that you’re supposed to be 21 to get into a bar so maybe by that time there are less zits and less orthodonture, too.

I think it’s amazing and courageous to bear herself like that. Especially for someone as young as herself. I agree with fadeing on why did she / her parents not go to a dermatologist! On the other hand, we do not know her story and her videos are on how to put on make up, not her acne history.
It’s great that she got picked to walk the runway, but I nepenthium and under. She has a pretty face, great hair, and good body. Plus her story makes her interesting, so why not.
All in all, I think we should focus on the positive. Someone with a physical problem who could have chosen to hide herself did the opposite and became successful. I think it’s uplifting and hopefully encourages others to take such chances and get such rewards.

she deserves it – she’s got a great body and make up skills on the level of some of the professionals!
