Oh dear. While speaking to the crowd at her Meatpacking District store on Fashion’s Night Out, Diane Von Furstenberg announced, “Everybody here better be a Democrat; no Republicans!”
Diane Von Furstenberg then encouraged the crowd to “go home and watch the President at 10 p.m.” before leaving the store. She’s got priorities, and alienating her customers seems to be one of them. [via New York Magazine]
What do you think about DVF’s statement to her customers? Good idea or bad idea? Do you agree?

@seriously_meredith@xanga - DVF is a legendary fashion designer. She invented the wrap dress!

She could have been joking too. But then again, it’s not polite to shout politics at customers. LOL

I’m a Republican. I just think it’s pretty funny.

Freedom of Speech speaks nothing of repercussions. She has the right to say this, especially in her store, but if this choice affects her sales or her numbers, then she must also deal with that as well.

Well, I just lost some respect for Diane Von Furstenberg. >.< Politics aside, no matter how famous she is and whether she’s a good fashion designer or not, she’s not a smart businesswoman. You shouldn’t disrespect and alienate paying customers. If she doesn’t want business from Republicans, then I hope she doesn’t receive any.

Bwahaha, I like her more now <3

I’d like it more if she had said “no religous bigots” or “no hardcore-capitalists” or something of that sort. Even though I have to say that while part of me screams “this is soo wrong” I find her bluntness quite amusing. Perhaps because I lean to to left in most areas, and also because she simply does what she wants.
She probably simply can afford it. Maxing out the right to freedom of speech to it’s full extend is maybe risky for a business in $, but she probably knows that her political message being brought across weighs out the money she might not be getting, for her personally.
