I have to confess something: I love my Spanx. While they aren’t an everyday part of my wardrobe, they are great at providing an extra boost of confidence for a big night out. But though I may love my shapewear, I think I would draw the line at donning a corset. Unfortunately for some women of the past who wanted to “drop” five founds fast, corsets were the only option! Click here to see some of their before and after shots.
Well, I will admit that some of these certainly do slim down their wearers by a lot! But I also can’t imagine that wearing a corset would be worth it. I already have to deal with boob sweat and stinky bras here in Texas; a corset definitely wouldn’t be pretty. Head on over to the source to see even more shots! [via Retronaut]
What do you think of these ads? If not for Spanx, would you wear a corset?

If I didn’t have scoliosis, had a different lifestyle, and had the money, I’d probably wear corsets. I think the garments themselves are pretty.

They aren’t wearing corsets they are all wearing girdles.

I think these garments are actually more of girdles than corsets, but I am rather fascinated by vintage shapewear. Spanx are modern girdles–so yes, I would wear shapewear if I desired a slimmer, smoother figure to go under a form-fitting dress. As for corsets, I would want to try one but I don’t know if I could stand to be restricted for long. The modern garments often referred to as corsets are not real corsets as they do not have the ability to mold your form into the desired hourglass figure over time.

i love how theyre all depicted as sad in teh before then happy after lol

I love both girdles and corsets. I would have to pay a lot of money to find a girdle small enough for me but I plan to in the future. I also plan on getting some real corsets made.

I love corsets!

I don’t have a problem with girdles and corsets. Their posture is better after.

Gawd, we’ve hated women for a long ass time! Some of those before pictures don’t look that bad.

Some of them could have just benefited from a more supportive bra for sure!

These photos are so funny. Their facial expressions. Im sure there was a little doctoring involved too. I own a corset, one of the more affordable styles, and it really does help with my posture a lot. I don’t know if I could wear a girdle though, maybe in the winter time when extra layers are okay.

Makes them stand up straighter.

They’re quite comfy, really.

Excellent! I love vintage fashion and corsets, which saved my evening out many times…
