As females (and humans in general), we’re frequently told to be afraid of aging. The fashion industry is obsessed with youth, magazines criticize celebrities for simply getting older and there are new (and increasingly expensive) “revitalizing” skin treatments directed at us each day. If a celebrity couple involves an older woman and a younger man a la Demi/Ashton, people deem her a “cougar” in every magazine despite many, many older men having younger girlfriends. Being older as a woman has often been seen as a terrifying foe to be fought at all costs, which is ridiculous. Granted, I myself am a lover of my own skin being smooth and whatnot, but I also cannot wait to have gray or white hair when I get older because I think it looks fantastic. And when I do end up getting those wrinkles, I hope I’ll be as stoked on them as my own grandmother who deeply embraces her older age. These days, hitting thirty is literally nothing, hitting forty is no big deal and hitting fifty or past that simply puts you in the same group as these lovely ladies.

So, after happily gawking at all the photos in Lindsay’s recent “Hollywood’s Hottest Over 50” post, I finally managed to un-drop my jaw and was inspired to make another gallery full of sexy 50+ faces. Only this time, they’re all girl-crush-inducing women. Even more inspiring: they’re all talented, intelligent, well-spoken and fashionable individuals, like Debbie Harry, 65, up top. 

My #1? Iman, 57.

Entrepreneur, advocate and icon, Iman is one of the most stunning women around, if you ask me. She writes about “ageless chic” and recently had a Huffington Post article about how “women of a certain age” should be able to wear leather without any stigma, so she also believes that age is a silly thing to put too much stock in. Plus, she speaks five languages, created a cosmetics line specifically for ethnic women whose skin tones were often not included in other companies’ and is married to one of music’s most iconic men, David Bowie. Talk about a power couple.
