Models.com recently ranked Puerto Rican fashion model Joan Smalls as the number one model in world. The ranking is based on daily call sheets from top photographers, her consistent fashion editorials in magazines such as “W” and “Vogue” and her innumerable ad campaigns with brands such as Prada, Balenciaga and Louis Vuitton.
At 5’10, Smalls is a standout on the runway. She has walked for Givenchy, Christian Dior and Victoria’s Secret among other designers. The 24-year-old beauty has also graced the covered of various international versions of “Vogue,” “Harper’s Bazaar” and “Elle” magazines.

In July, Smalls spoke with “W” magazine about being an influence for young women and women of color.
“I just have something to prove,” Smalls says. “I know I’m representing a group–Black, Latin, whatever you want to put me with– and I want to show that they are beautiful the way they are. I think that’s really important for our youth to see. Fashion is part of our culture,” she says. “And it’s about more than just a pretty dress.” [via WMagazine.com]
Most recently, Smalls and fellow Victoria’s Secret model Karlie Kloss were cast as hosts of MTV’s revamped fashion show, “House of Style.” Coincidentally, Models.com ranked Kloss as the number two model in the world.
Back in the ’80s and ’90s, models Cindy Crawford, Amber Valletta and Daisy Fuentes were just some of the models who hosted “House of Style” during its 11 year run. The new “House of Style” is set to premiere this October.
Lovelies, will you be watching? Who are your favorite models?

in the 1980/90s (i don’t remember the exact years) Talisa Soto’s face seemed to be on every fashion mag cover as i’d pass NYC newsstands. then i’d enter the east 47th street Manhattan high rise i called home and there she’d be in the lobby or on the elevator. she lived there. Rene Simonsen lived there as well. Simonsen was a Ford or Elite model of the year in the mid 80s i believe. i never chatted with Simonsen but Soto on occasion stopped to chat with Jules, one of the doormen, and i. Jules was a great guy from Jamaica. i don’t really have a favorite model.
i once got on the second avenue bus, saw one of the forward facing single seats empty and made a beeline for it. they are prime real estate on NYC buses sitting in one assures you won’t be squeezed in by someone who sits down next to you. a girl in the seat in front of me opened a portfolio and started flipping through it. i recognized the images to be of a Victoria’s Secret model. i was a pro photographer around that time and felt compelled to ask if she took those photos. she turned around and said shyly, that’s me. sure enough it was. we chatted until my stop came. she was a sweet girl. i don’t recall her name.
