Ah, Pinterest. We know it as that magical site where hours seem to disappear amid photos of food, fitness and fashion.  It’s the place we go to scrapbook for our future weddings and travels, and even our future kids.

But Pinterest is more than just a bunch of pictures. I’ve learned so many valuable lessons from the site that transcend even the most amazing wedding invite. It’s amazing what tips and tricks surface when so many people are repinning all at once.

Without further ado, here’s a list of the most practical things I’ve learned from Pinterest.

Use a banana to fix scratch CDs

Rubbing a cut banana over your CDs can help solve their scratchiness. You’re supposed to then wax the CD with the banana peel and remove all residue with glass cleaner afterwards. I don’t know how or why, but it really works!

Eat Marshmallows to cure a sore throat

The gelatin in marshmallows can ease irritation in your throat, so if you can’t shake the soreness, just eat a few marshmallows! Three or four should be enough. Marshmallow root, one of the original ingredients in marshmallows, is also said to help and can be made into a tea. Sure sounds better than cough medicine…

Use Yellow Mustard to Relieve pain from burn

I’ve done this in a pinch at work, and it really works! Slather cold, yellow mustard onto the burnt area and wrap loosely with saran wrap or a bandage—the pain should go away fairly quickly. After about 12 hours with the mustard wrap on, you should see no signs of blisters either! Obviously, this is meant for small burns only…if you’re on fire, the paramedics would probably do a better job.

Make your shoes bigger

(Make some room!)

If you just need a little extra room in your shoes, you can fix it with a plastic bag, some water and a freezer. Just fill the bags with water, close them tightly, and place securely in the toe area of your shoe. After 24 hours or so in the freezer, your shoes should be feeling a lot more comfortable!

ANOTHER way to make your shoes bigger!

This one is even easier… just throw on some thick socks, get your shoes on (this would probably work best for flats or heels), and blow your hairdryer at all the tight spots for a few seconds. Take the socks off once the shoes have cooled down, and voila!

Force your zipper to stay up

Just loop one of those little keychain rings around your zipper and hook it to your pants button. My zippers never stay up, and this trick has saved me from a million “hey, XYZ…hahaha”s.

So thanks Pinterest. You’re the best!
