I love Azealia Banks. I love her fashion sense, her music, her hair (shock, I know) and her overall nonchalant-yet-sweet attitude. With absurdly catchy hits like “212,” she has taken the hip hop scene (and my iPod’s scene) by storm. And with her trademark long, colored locks and fearless style, Banks is also quickly becoming a fashion icon. At a recent concert in Brooklyn for the SPIN/Refinery29 party at the Wythe Hotel, she performed in an intriguing getup that is definitely in her realm of clothing choices.
On the one hand, I want to praise this fashion choice: I can see influences from both old school Madonna and Destiny’s Child circa “Say My Name,” as well as Banks’ signature style. On the other hand, I’m not so sure if I love the construction: the two strips of fabric sort of irk me and the I’m not huge on using three different fabrics all in the same hue. And yet I think it works for her in ways it wouldn’t work on nearly anybody else. Two more photos
Lovelies, what do you think: Is Azealia Banks’ romper a hit like her music or a bizarre noir fail?

I friggin love that. I WOULDN’T wear it out of the bedroom since I don’t perform on stage, but that is awesome.

@seriously_meredith@xanga - I thought I was the only one. I have no clue who she is.

Am I the only one who thinks her outfit looks as if someone took two, black, straw hats made for little dolls and slapped them across her chest?

I don’t understand why we’re judging her stage outfit/costume.

Have you LISTENED to the lyrics to “212″? I don’t think anyone who’s figured out the words to that song would describe her as particularly “sweet.”
