Some people will go to long, even crazy, lengths for a marriage proposal. From jumbo cams to skywriting, most over-the-top professions of love have been done before. But one romantic pulled a crazy stunt recently by faking his own death…and then immediately proposing to his girlfriend. So was his move endearing or just plain nutty?
According to the source, Alexey Bykov of Russia hired a slew of professionals to fake his own death in front of his girlfriend. His staff oncluded a director, stuntman and makeup artists. The couple was supposed to meet somewhere, and she arrived to find wrecked cars, smoke everywhere…and Alexy, lying on the ground covered in blood. A paramedic then told her that her boyfriend was dead, right before Alexy jumped up and proposed. She said yes.
If this proposal sounds mean and perhaps immature, his reasoning behind it was even worse:
I wanted her to realize how empty her life would be without me and how life would have no meaning without me.”
Oh. How…romantic, and not at all cruel. If a guy proposed to me like this, I can’t imagine my reaction would be positive. It certainly wouldn’t result in a “yes.” Even a jumbo tron would be better! [via Neatorama]
What do you think of this proposal?

I would never want to be with someone who would put me through something like that. Selfish. If that were me, he would have gotten a slap in the face and a big fat “no”.

Well…if you love someone, you love them, no matter how stupid they may be. I probably would have suggested that he try asking again, then demand free backrubs for life to deal with the PTSD.
guest
So strange. I can feel her immediate pain so deeply. I would NOT want to be proposed this way.

Good lord. Run, girl. Run.

@LupusInvictus@xanga - haha, sooo true, backrubs for life mister! lol
guest
absolutely not okay. I agree with @LupusInvictus@xanga about the fact that if she loved him, of course she was going to say yes. just like if my boyfriend did this, I’d get over it and say yes. but my boyfriend WOULDNT do this because he knows better. this was evil, and the pain she felt must have been extremely immense. I would have been a hysterical mess within .2234 seconds of walking up to the scene. Not okay.

I think if he loved and cared about her he wouldn’t have done that. I can’t imagine my hubby doing that, but now that I think of it, I love him and would probably be so upset and stressed out he would have to ask me again. Uhm, let’s see that again please! No, this time at the falls. Mine proposed at one of our favorite spots, just before I went to Japan. YAY!!! NOT!!!
guest
@crazypassions@xanga - So crazily agree with you girl!!! Cept, maybe .2233 secornds. hehe

I think I would slap him for scaring me! I definitely would not like to be proposed to this way. I am simple–the typical down on one knee, flowers and fancy dinner will do it, if it is the right guy.

That whole proposal was about him & sick satisfaction. I hope she saw the light & left him.

Troll job of legendary proportions. His answer makes him sound like a creepy douche though, should have just said he did it for the lulz and left it at that.

@LupusInvictus@xanga - I like your comment =-P
Yeah.. some people are just odd/different.. that is really terrible though what he did to his girlfriend.
I mean some people can see it as twisted humor but that is no way to propose unless the girl is just “odd” or “weird” herself. Overall it is wrong and mean..
guest
That’s really fucked up, and I hope she’s seen the light and left, but you never know.
guest
Wow, that is really twisted and fucked up…. O_O And a little self-absorbed on his part. Really? “Life has absolutely no meaning without me in your life?” is basically what he’s saying? So let me pretend die in a horrible accident and show you what you’re missing..? I mean, I kind of get what he’s trying to say, but still…. That’s just overdramatic and taking it too far.
guest
Gee, what a sweet guy.
NOT.
Talk about a self absorbed asshole.
guest
Oh, wow. That’s just sooo wrong. What he did was way over the top. Here’s a clip of that guy running after his gf after the “accident” starting at 0:35. Well, she forgave him because they’re married now.

O…….
guest
That’s horrible.
guest
wow he sounds incredibly full of himself! “i want her to know how empty her life would be without me”? Seriously that sounds healthy!
guest
His response just sounded greedy & selfish.
guest
@misswheeler - yeah, this feels like a pretty obvious segue into a super emotionally abusive relationship…but i guess it’s easy to see that from the outside looking in. where are this girl’s friends and family to tell her maybe she should think this over?
orchid / 105 posts
@corporatecrow@xanga - i know! i guess the heart wants what it wants. if i were her, i’d say yes and get all the way to the altar and then be like “haha! big joke! i just wanted you to see how your life would be so happy and meaningful with me in it!” and take off.
guest
I’d be so mad..
guest
Didn’t anyone in he camera crew or the newscast or the make up artists warn him that this would be a terrible idea?
guest
“I wanted her to realize how empty her life would be without me and how life would have no meaning without me.”
-shakes head-
That to me sounds board line abusive, selfish, and just silly.
guest
What a freaking egotistic deuche…she should rethink and dump him real quick… What is he going to do on their wedding night, make her think she cheated so she wants him more???
guest
Messed. Up.
Since when is that a way to show someone you love them?
guest
I would have killed him for real.
guest
I’d be so pissed…he would have wished he had actually died…
guest
What a selfish, narcissistic, ass hole. I would have punched him. How could he be okay with causing her any ounce pain if he truly does love her… And I agree that him wanting her to think that her life would be meaningless without him is borderline abusive.
orchid / 137 posts
She should have walked away and allowed him to see how empty his life would be without her.
rose / 980 posts
I would have said no.
guest
@misswheeler - LOL! Perfect! I hope that that’s actually her plan.
guest
Does anyone else hear “desperate” and “insecure” echoing in the air, or is it just me?
That guy is too crazy.
guest
This guy is probably lucky his girlfriend didn’t kill him for pulling that stunt on her.
guest
@misswheeler - that would be WONDERFUL.
guest
Am i the only person who likes this? I mean yeah it’s terrifying and scary, but still. It does seem a bit self-absorbed, but i can see myself doing something like this simply to try and have them feel the way that i would feel without them.
guest
That’s crazy manipulative…
guest
This is just plain manipulative.
guest
WTF?
guest
I would’ve have punched him in the face. Punch, not slap. And if I really loved him…punch him in the face, and then say yes.

Man Faking Own Death To Propose To Girlfriend Results In Man’s Death
guest
I’d be so pissed. My answer would be somewhere along the lines of, “#&%@ you!”
guest
ummm…
I wanted her to realize how empty her life would be without me and how life would have no meaning without me.”
if that’s what it takes for her to realize his value in her life…. Also, “life would have no meaning without me” ?!?! REALLY? I mean of course, yes, I would be devastated if something were to happen to my fiancé but my life wouldn’t be completely empty and meaningless without him that I’d contemplate ending my own life…
