Kellie Pickler has always been known for her very outgoing and bubbly personality. What many may have not known about her though, is what a loyal friend she is.
She proved this characteristic to the World this morning when she appeared on Good Morning America with a completely shaved head. Kellie chose to cut off her blonde hair in support of her best friend, Summer Holt Miller, who was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this summer at the young age of 36.
Summer is about to start chemotherapy treatments tomorrow and decided that instead of waiting for her hair to fall out, she would shave her head to spare herself the stress of actually seeing it on her pillow.
Kellie Pickler has stated that although the main reason for shaving her head is to support her friend through this difficult time, she is also doing it so that it will push women to get a mammogram before the age of 40. For a long time, 40 years old has been the recommended age to start getting mammograms, but as of late, more and more instances of breast cancer are occurring in women under the age of 40.
We all wish Summer well and hope that she continues to be strong!
What do you think of Kellie Pickler’s decision to shave her head? Have you ever done anything dramatic to support your friends?

Kudos to her. I don’t think I could ever do that. I cry whenever more than two inches get cut off.

My best friend adores her hair. I mean, it is one of her favorite assets about herself. If she ended up with cancer and had to go through chemo, I would do the same. I’d shave it off so she wouldn’t feel alone. She’s like a sister to me and I wouldn’t ever want her to feel like she was alone and unsupported. I think what Kellie did was wonderful.

That’s such a great thing! It sounds silly but losing your hair would be so hard, she’s a really good friend to do it voluntarly.

That’s wonderful

I would do it IF I was asked to or if it was my best friend or something, but I do think it’s quite an overdone thing. Like “oh, my friend has cancer I’m going to shave my head and support them” – I’ve seen so many people do it, and while I’m not saying cancer is an easy thing to have by ANY means, I just question why people shave their heads without a reason – like, do they do it to make themselves feel good? Because obviously people will ask them and they’ll get a lot of praise and attention for doing it. I dunno, maybe it’s the cynic in me talking.

My best friend had cancer when we were in college and she lost all her hair, it was heartbreaking but she handled it really well, and now she’s 3.5 years remission and her hair is the longest and healthiest it’s ever been. When she was diagnosed she specifically sat us down and told us not to shave our heads, but to just be there for her.

Aww! She’s got a big heart. They still both look beautiful!

I don’t get why she would make herself look ugly just to help out her friend. I guess the motto is “If you look ugly, we’ll both look ugly together”. It doesn’t help at all with the cancer. I guess judging by Kelli’s pictures on Google though, it’s not THAT big of a deal because she didn’t have much hair to begin with, although I don’t know how much damage was done on Judgement Day on Good Morning America.

one of my close guy friends shaved his head for his other friend who was battling cancer too.

If I knew that a friend/loved one was REALLY struggling with losing their hair or outright asked me to shave my head for them, I would. Otherwise though, I don’t really see the point. I think there are far better ways of offering support and bringing attention to the cause.
Nevertheless, she made a pretty big sacrifice for her friend and I respect that.

@Chibi_Son_Gokou@xanga - ” I guess the motto is “If you look ugly, we’ll both look ugly together”. “
Really? Maybe you should check your heart because it is the only thing that is ugly on this page.

I think it’s perverse for women to shave their heads. Whenever I see this sort of thing it leaves me with a sick feeling.
