Hi Lovelies! We can’t believe how fast the summer flew by! We hope that everyone had a good one and is looking forward to a fabulous fall! The Lovelyish Team wants to wish all of you Lovelies going back to school (or that have already started classes) a very happy school year!
We compiled a fun post looking back on our own first days back at school when we were kids. We hope you Lovelies get a kick out of our old school photos and the awesome fashion from the 80s and 90s!
Eugenia: This is 6-year-old me on the first day of first grade. I chose to share this particular photo because I’m completely shocked that this is me! I’m rocking a look that I don’t think I could ever pull off now -blunt bangs, a pencil skirt, socks with pointy-toed dress shoes all in the color pink! I swear last week I saw a woman in SoHo rocking the same outfit.
Katie: This is me and my super-babe mom on my first day of kindergarten. It also happened to be my 5th birthday, so I was pretty stoked. Those overalls were Osh Kosh B’gosh! Remember that brand?! I have to admit, my mom had me looking pretty adorable and I wish I had an adult-sized version of that outfit — minus the Burger King cardboard crown.
Andrea: This is me and my little sisters on my first day of high school! We went to a very conservative Catholic school, hence the long skirts and knee socks. I started at the K-12 school in 6th grade and already knew all of my classmates (I graduated in a class of 17), so I think my biggest worry was that the colored rubber bands on my braces coordinated properly.
Sam: This is me at age 6 on the first day of school. I refused to wear anything but pretty dresses until 4th grade (at which time I refused to wear dresses until age 13), thus the cutesy pink frock. I also refused to go anywhere without at least one stuffed animal, thus the Hello Kitty doll. I also apparently found school hilarious.
Angelica: This is me on my very first day of kindergarten. I still do not know what gave my parents the idea that putting me in a striped dress with a huge insect as the focal point was okay, but I looked pretty happy about it back then. That Pocahontas lunchbox was my favorite thing because it made me feel so grown up to be carrying my own food for myself and it even came with a matching thermos inside…fancy.
Leslie: I don’t know what year this is, and I can never tell children’s ages (every kid is 3 or 8 to me) but it looks like I forced the ugliest smile ever and I can’t stop laughing at this picture. Someone once told me I looked like a wee Jackie Chan here. My sister is on the left and is beyond photogenic in comparison. My parents gave her dresses and I got boy clothes and Legos. It ruled! On my first day of kindergarten, some girl accidentally stabbed me in the wrist with a pencil. Ergo, school was not my favorite from the start, socially speaking.
Lindsay: I can’t blame my mom for letting us wear pajamas on the first day of school, ’cause look at how bad-ass our pants are! The huge Mickey Mouse hats and faux Mary Janes really complete the look. I’m not sure what age I was in this picture, but it must’ve been taken in my dalmatian phase (I wanted to be a dalmatian when I grew up)—hence the stuffed animal. I was obsessed! And you can’t see it, but those hats are hiding some mean mullets. Our mom had great taste.
Lovelies, how did your first day of school this year go (or for the Lovelies that are out of school -any crazy/fond memories from the past)? What did you end up wearing and how do you feel about the year ahead?

There’s a picture of me floating around from my first day of first grade, and I was wearing this shirt with Meg from Hercules on it and matching pink shorts. So badass.
