While most Hollywood films hit the big screen looking ultra-polished, they obviously don’t start out that way. In fact, the end results of most movies usually barely resemble their initial appearances. And when it comes to animated characters, sometimes their concept art doesn’t even look related to the final product! Click here to see 10 examples of characters whose appearances changed drastically!
Wow, I think Yoday definitely underwent the biggest transformation of this bunch. Head on over to the source to see even more interesting art! [via Screen Crush]
Are any of these original looks better than their final product?

The concept yoda would have been a very interesting take on it. I also love that early concept of the mad hatter. I realize it’s not very tim burton but it’s just better!

That’s the problem with a lotta movies today. They RARELY follow the original story to the letter. A good example is James Bond. Aside from the new ones with Daniel Craig ALL the Bond movies barely followed Ian Fleming’s original plot. My Dad pointed this out to me years ago. Φ ≡

I love these! I think both versions of a few of these are pretty cool and wouldn’t have minded either, like Beast, Spider Man, the queen from Snow White, and I guess Na’vi. The original Mad Hatter concept looks like it’s got some steampunk gong on there, which is pretty cool actually. Thanks for the share!

That Shrek is terrible. Really glad that didn’t happen.
I like the early Hagrid though

I really appreciate this post… it is always interesting to me to see the development side of things… as well as the differences between concept art and live film. The Shrek picture shows an obvious diversion between script and character design; at no point is the appearance of Shrek meant to be comedic. The Hatter one is also interesting… I sort of think the Red-Hair version copped out on the “Mad” concept, instead of going with a more unique take. Part of the point of that entire novel is to re-examine concepts like our definition of “Mad” or “Late” or “Important”, and that is done by showing worlds where these concepts are turned upside down, and everybody thinks nothing of it. To show a very stereotypical “Mad Man” as the “Mad Hatter”… meh, just feels uncreative and against the spirit of the original work. I liked the concept art much better.
