I’m a huge nerd, and I really like music that reminds me of cold weather. It becomes even weirder because I’m from a part of Texas that hardly ever gets any snow. A few years ago, I fell in love with the Shins, because most of their songs reminded me of Christmas morning. I just love Autumn-y/Winter-y music… and it’s exactly what I need to get myself through the stressful work week.
We Are Serenades released their album Criminal Heaven back in April, and the Swedish indie pop duo finished up their first-ever headlining U.S. tour back in May. Sad face. I’ll definitely be catching them next time they’re in the States! Did I mention that you can stream their entire album online for free? They remind me a bit of the Beach Boys, Simon & Garfunkel, and the Shins. What do you think?
I love checking out new music, and it makes me very sad that Spotify requires a Facebook account. (I deleted mine for personal reasons a few months ago.) In the meantime, I’ve discovered alternative websites that allow me to discover just as much new music. This account is particularly great, with tons and tons of great songs to get me through the week.
How do you discover new music? What/who have you been listening to lately?

Last.fm is great; that’s how I discover most of the music I love. If you like music that sounds like Christmas, might I suggest Mermaids (album: Tropsicle) and Christmas Island.

I love George Winston piano at this time of year. It’s great through December or January. He has a whole series of “seasons” albums, but “Autumn” and “December” are definitely my favorites. He somehow puts the FEELING of fall and winter into gorgeous piano pieces. Keeps me sane at work and with no lyrics, I can keep my thoughts on the numbers I have to look at all day….My friend turned me onto him during my first year at Central Michigan University. I have gone back to it each fall ever since! Makes me miss undergrad!!
