We’ve all been there. You are in the middle of a date, sitting in class, or at a party when you realize that what you are carrying in your purse is not sufficient enough for the unforeseen minor emergency that has popped up. The minor emergency might be your dreaded period, but it could also be a smudge of mascara that you didn’t know was there all morning or filthy hands from accidentally touching someone’s gum underneath the desk.
Whatever the issue may be, you should always be as prepared as possible with the right tools in your purse. Here is a list of some must have items that every woman should always have on hand for whenever the unthinkable happens.
1. Hand Sanitizer
Sure, sanitizer isn’t as good as washing your hands with soap and water, but when you are in a bind and need something quick, these little bottles of antibacterial goodness will do the job just fine.
2. Pen and Small Notepad
You never know when you will need to jot something important down whether it be an idea that you want to remember later or the cute barista’s phone number, so it is very useful to have a pen and paper close at hand.
3. Aspirin
Nothing is worse than getting a 2:00 migraine or menstrual cramps and having nothing to soothe it. Having a travel size bottle of meds will help keep the pain at bay until you can get home to take nap or to stuff your face with a pint of icecream.
4. Hair Items
I cannot tell you how many times an extra rubber band and bobby pins have helped me out. When it is unnaturally hot or windy outside, these tiny tools will be your best friends.
5. Snacks
Too often, we go all day without properly fueling up because of hectic schedules and no time to stop and eat a meal. When this happens, it is important to have a little snack stashed away for when ill-timed hunger strikes.
6. Tampons/Pads
This one is a no brainer. Sometimes that special time of the month can appear at a not so special time and ruin our day, our clothes and our confidence. ALWAYS keep something in your purse just in case. It also doesn’t hurt to be able to help a fellow unprepared girl out when she is in need.
7. Mints/Gum
Bad breath does not discriminate and nothing is more embarrassing than trying to have an intimate conversation containing a lot of words that begin with the letter “h” with someone after scarfing down garlic bread. Have these on hand to quickly kill foul smells.
8. Mirror
This one is also a no brainer. Mirrors are good for so many things other than making sure your makeup looks okay. You can also check to see if there is any food in your teeth or secretly look at the guy behind you.
9. Cash
Even though it seems that everything is digital now days, there are still a couple of places that only accept cash and you never want to be in a situation where you do not have any money. For piece of mind, a few dollars will do just fine.
10. Pepper spray
Hopefully you will never have to use this, but it something that is good to have on you, especially if you are alone. You don’t have to keep this one in your purse if you don’t want to; they usually come with a key ring attached so you can put it with your keys instead.
What other items do you think are essential for all Lovelies to carry in their purses?

Keeping a small snack in my purse actually helped me this week while traveling.

Safety pins are a lifesaver sometimes, & I just pin them on the lining of my purse so they’re out of the way.

Pre-moistened sanitary wipes
And a bobby pin. You’d be surprised how much that little guy comes in handy.

pretty good list. i actually have most of these in my bag already!

I do not agree with the hand sanitizer.. I dont trust antibacterial stuff.. and im allergic to most of it.
And I keep a small bottle of ibuprofen on me.. works better then aspirin IMO

I prefer baby wipes over hand sanitizer. Better for cleaning up weird unforseen messes… handy if there’s no toilet paper in a bathroom… and good for cleaning up makeup smudges.
Also you can buy them in a bulk and throw a couple in a zip lock bag to fit in a smaller purse.
And a phone charger. I ALWAYS carry a phone charger.

if I have the room in my purse… otherwise I carry just a small folding wall charger.

Eh, pretty much none of the above. Pepper spray/guns/tasers are considered offensive weapons over here and you can be locked up if the police find you have them on you. The only things I always carry with me are loose change, my phone, bank card, hair elastics and a book.

Hand sanitizer, a small perfume bottle, gum, a brush, and obviously tampons just in case. I also keep headphones and a dollar or two in case I want a thirstbuster haha

Hmmm, I think I am setting myself up for a disaster as I don’t often have most of that stuff. I typically only have gum, feminine supplies and cash from the list and a comb. I do have body lotion, fragrance splash and deodorant at my desk at work, as well as more feminine supplies.

I’m pretty sure pepper spray has been known to just backfire. But whatever makes you feel safe.

I have most of these items in my bag, but not all of them.
This is a good list!
Mostly I keep tissues on me, hand lotion, sketchbook (never know when inspiration strikes!), lipbalm and/or chapstick, and my car charger for my smartphone (so my battery doesn’t die…when I’m commuting somewhere).

My Mom used to carry in her purse these rice-krispy treats she made with vegetables so we could eat them when we went to the movies. Yeah – I know that doesn’t sound good, they weren’t that tasty either.
As far as purse essentials, one thing Rose carries is a WHISTLE. She said thattaways she blow it really loud if someone tries to rape her.
I sometimes wonder if she really would blow the whistle if that happened ? Φ ≡

@LadyGwenivere@xanga -
Antibacterial wipes/sanitisers are actually very helpful to remove transient microorganisms. you can still pick up e.coli through 4 layers of toilet paper whilst wiping your ass and washing your hands.
It’s a shame that your skin can’t tolerate the alcohol content in them though.
guest
@LeeKymKween@xanga The reason I will not use them is because while they do kill most of the bad bacteria. they also kill the good that our skin uses as a defense (infromation I got directly from my Dr and P&G). I also see that part of my comment did not show up (thats what I get for posting using my iPod) .. and that is where I said that as a mum, I always have wipes in my bag, as well as an alcohol free non-antibacterial hand cleaner (which is basically the hand sanitizer without all the nasty stuff thats bad for your skin).

I don’t think half of these are really that essential. I carry bobby pins but the rest I can do without. And pepper spray is illegal where I live, haha.

@LadyGwenivere@xanga - Be careful with Ibuprofen, it’s really horrible for your stomach. I get frequent migraines and always took Ibuprofen for them before, but I developed a stomach ulcer because of it.
guest
@emptyabyss@xanga - My Drs (I see both a naturalpath and GP) said it was Tylenol (acetaminophen) that was bad for the stomach.. I only take it when I have a migraine or my back goes out. other then that I just suck it up and get through it.

@LadyGwenivere@xanga - that’s fair — as long as you properly cleanse your hands with a form of soap – works as a lipid/oil remover and degrades bacteria’s surface membrane.

Most of these are pretty obvious.
On a side note, I carry a defense baton as well. A compact 12 inches when retracted, and 36 inches of black steel when fully extended. It’ll fuck up anyone’s world.

i-what ever, itouch, ipod, ipod, iphones…or are those a given, then I would say nail file.

Big can of whoop ass.

@chronic_masticator@xanga - good for you. I need to get one for my daughter.

@emptyabyss@xanga - that’s what I was wondering. this is rather a silly post.

Praise Jesus. I wouldn’t have survived without this lifesaving post. Thank you, good Samaritan.

It’s obvious things but it’s a good reminder to me of what I need in my purse. I would add lotion simply because I work in the kitchen of a nursing home where I wash my hands constantly. I also crochet which dries me out too.
