Um, what do you do when you are speechless but you need to say something? This is the pickle I am in. I feel like I should have a lot to say about this, but my mind is blown. THERE ARE NO WORDS.
Yes, this cat is real. She is a “chimera“, which, according to wikipedia, means “a single organism that is composed of two or more different populations of genetically distinct cells that originated from different zygotes involved in sexual reproduction. If the different cells have emerged from the same zygote, the organism is called a mosaic. Chimeras are formed from at least four parent cells (two fertilized eggs or early embryos fused together). Each population of cells keeps its own character and the resulting organism is a mixture of tissues.”
That sounds complicated. All I know is that I want this cat!

It looks evil.

I have not encountered any animals of the chimera variety, but I do find the concept really interesting (and slightly creepy), especially after seeing a program called “I Am My Own Twin.”

so cats don’t get periods, thus keep their eggs, so they have two eggs instead of one

That cat is amazing! I have a manx cat that has split-face coloring, but it’s not as pronounced as this cat. It’s definitely noticeable as a little more than 1/2 of her face is black and the other side is a brown/tan mix, with only tan above the eye and then black above that. People always comment on her split-face coloring. :)

Everytime I hear the word chimera I think of that poor little girl and dog from Full Metal Alchemist, waaaah.
this cat is cool, though!

I don’t all what they call it, I call it CUTE!

Definitely interesting.
@thatkyliegirlx@xanga - Okay, I was wondering why I had a general negative reaction to the word “chimera”. That would explain the association.

This cat should have been named harvey dent.
I only like the tabby side of it

Such a pretty kitty!

Aww, I saw this on Tumblr – I WANT ONE!

There are several in our neighborhood which have the bisected facial coloring, although they are not so dramatic. It’s a pretty fascinating sort of world.

My neighbor has had a cat since i was little, we call it two-face because half his face is orange and half is grey. I always wondered why that was, now i know! How cool.

@thatkyliegirlx@xanga - I cry so hard over that episode.

The kitty is gorgeous and unique.

That is one interesting looking cat! To judge by its even expression though, it doesn’t seem to have a split personality so much as a split physiology though. And no, I don’t think I’ve seen a chimera before, but I’ve read about them, even some humans that were born chimeras – which gave them grief later when they went to have children of their own. Most of the articles I’ve read on this were pertaining to medical projects whereby human-animal chimera were being induced to provide body parts and organs for transplant. That was in England, I believe. There was considerable dissent against it if you can imagine the implications of that.
