In a move that’s sure to make some people clutch their pearls, Mattel has released a Barbie that some people are calling a drag queen. How in the world did this come about, and how is the company addressing the issue? Find out and see the full doll by clicking here!
It’s not uncommon for Mattel to pair up with fashion designers to create outfits for Barbie, and the “drag queen” doll is no different. Her outfit was created by design team David and Phillipe Blond. Phillipe often dresses in drag, and one outfit of his in particular is the reason for the doll’s unofficial label:
I can definitely see the similarities! But Mattel is denying any drag queen rumors, saying that the Blond’s doll simply “celebrates the dramatic and glamorous fashions created by the designing pair David and Phillipe Blond.” The company also says they have not received any complaints about it. What do you think of this Barbie?

If Barbie has lashes like that when I was a kid, I probably would have played with it!

Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! She is a gorgeous doll. If I had the space to start a collection, she would probably be my first. If I had her as a kid, she would have been the only one I didn’t hack up and I would have never altered her clothes.

Drag queen? She just has more makeup than normal. I wear a lot of makeup, does that make me a drag queen, too?

it kind of seems more like old hollywood glam barbie

@Cho_0705@xanga - exactly.

Aw, I was excited thinking it was officially a drag queen doll. That would have been awesome.

Consumerism and materialism sucks. How much oil and energy did it take to make this doll, ship it overseas, ship it around the country, etc. This is what we want our children to aspire to be?

1. It’s not leopard print.
2. It’s not Ken.
Conclusion? Not “Drag Queen Barbie”.

I’ve been on a drag queen high lately because I’ve been watching reruns of RuPaul’s Drag Race, so I’m actually a little disappointed this isn’t a drag queen barbie : / lol

But…that’s not a girl…???

I would totally own this Barbie and all of its over-the-topness. And I’m not even that much of a Barbie fan.

The day Mattel actually creates a drag queen doll is the day the corporation needs to be crushed. We should not be teaching young girls that being a drag queen is alright, as it is not. We need to keep a tighter reign on these corporations. My being a fascist would help very well with this. A corporation starts promoting the idea of drag queens to children should be the day the company is confiscated by the State, and partitioned accordingly.

@Digital_Angel21@xanga - No, it would not have. I would have started a campaign against it, to have it removed from society altogether.

@CanuckFascist@xanga - Oh shut up. Girls can’t even be drag queens, you have to be a dude.

@Digital_Angel21@xanga - Really? You don’t say! Wow! You learn something new every day! *rubs my temples* Unbelievable.
