I love my nails. A lot. I try to make sure they always look manicured and clean, and it breaks my heart a little each and every time one of my nails breaks. This being said, I’m not sure if I love my nails enough to put solid gold on them. But OPI created a James Bond 007 collection, and in that collection is nail polish made of gold…yes, real gold leaf.
The 007 collection was created to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the James Bond legacy. In addition to twelve normal colors, the gold leaf top coat was added. Appropriately named ‘The Man With The Golden Gun‘ this nail polish will cost you a whopping $30. As the picture suggests, this looks more like a shatter than a ‘top coat’. As with any overly priced commemorate accessory, this polish will be limited edition.
Here’s a list of things I could buy with $30:
- A gel manicure that could last 2+ weeks
- About 8 bottles of soap at Bath & Body Works
- Groceries for two weeks
- 3 regular manicures (with my student discount)
- 3 bottles of OPI nail polish and a pack of gum
- OPI gold leaf nail polish
Well, I’m not sure about the rest of you, but I know what I’m not going to buy. I think the idea of gold nail polish is really cool, but if you bought a gold colored shatter, I believe you could essentially get the same effect. Nobody will know your nails have actual gold leaf on them unless you pointed it out and told them. And in that case, I feel like you might sound like a bit of a showoff.
If I was given this nail polish would I try it? Absolutely. But I couldn’t justify wasting my precious grocery money on actual gold nail polish, even if it is by OPI.
Bonus: Here’s a first look at the entire James Bond 007 ‘Skyfall’ collection:
I absolutely love the first two colors. Bonus x2: all of these cost normal price!
The collection will be in stores just in time for the holidays. I see some perfect New Years colors I can’t wait to try!
Lovelies, would you use OPI’s gold nail polish? Do you like any of the colors in the new James Bond collection?

That’s pretty cool! Definitely not within my budget though haha,

I love OPI! I’d totally get this if I felt it was okay to spend $30 on a bottle of nail polish haha.
But I might get a bottle from this collection

$30 buys TWO WEEKS of groceries!? That’s the blog post I want to read!

Gel manicures wreak havoc on your nail beds. Everyone I know who gets them admit that their nails are weaker and peel more than they used to.
So yeah, beautiful gold leaf polish over a trendy, overpriced nail trend? Hell yes.
Anything “crackle” or “shatter” just doesn’t look the same at all. It looks tacky.
And… there are other brands out there which offer this kind of polish – gold flake – all year round. I think Barry M is the one I’m thinking of but I can’t be sure off the top of my head. At any rate, so excited for this polish. My Ulta discount (25%) will really come in handy.

(Just wondering – $30 for groceries, for two weeks? Seriously? Are you an extreme couponer or something?

I own a lot of similar colors to that collection so I’ll skip out on it. Yes, I’d buy the gold nail polish. Sephora by OPI has a gold nail polish too, but it’s more like tiny flecks not leaves. I heard the amount of gold they put in the nail polish though is less than a dollars worth. lol. So buying a gold sheet and topcoat would come out cheaper.

i was hoping it’d be solid like the bottle

In what world does $30 buy anyone but an anorexic or extreme coupon-er groceries for two weeks?
Please. Explain this to me.
I’d much rather get a full break down of that than hear about a tacky shatter polish any day.

mh that’s not much considering there’s gold in it, I expected it to cost more. I know a chanel bottle costs 16$ in the US and still people buy it.
?
I always wanted a top coat that looks like this, but fake gold is perfectly fine for me as long as it’s less expensive. How about 15 bottles of cheap nail polish for the price

Nah, I heard that too but last summer decided to get gel manis every two weeks for over six months. My own nails were brittle as hell, I couldn’t grow them or keep them an even shape, they just broke and peeled. When I finally decided to go back to my own nails, they were STRONG. A few months later, I get asked all the time if they’re my own nails. Gel manicures literally saved my nails lol.

Where the hell can you get 2 weeks of groceries for $30? I wanna shop there…

$30 for two weeks of groceries?! Where the heck can you buy food that cheap?

Hmm, I don’t know if I would spend that kind of money on NAIL POLISH, but it looks so awesome! That is quite creative and unique. I am obsessed with nail polish. I would probably try the other colors in the collection, however.

I would not spend $30 on a bottle of nail polish (today’s prices, anyway – if that was the normal price in 15 years for a bottle of OPI, maybe.) I used to only wear red or pink tones, but lately I’ve been wearing dark blues, greens and purples. I don’t like the shatter stuff at all, so I wouldn’t buy this gold leaf stuff even if it was $1. If someone gave it to me I would pass it on.

In what world does $30 buy two weeks worth of groceries? Are you living off cheese and crackers?
