Most people are appalled by book burning or any other intentional destruction of literary material. After all, our ability to read is an important right that not all people are allowed. Which is why the Internet is up in arms over Lauren Conrad’s new craft video. In it, she takes apart a number of books (A Series of Unfortunate Events, in case you were curious) and uses their spines to decorate a box. So is Conrad committing a sin by literally deconstructing these novels, or is it fine for her to do so?
I really loved that book series, and it kind of hurt to see them being torn apart! I cringed at this video, but is it fine for Lauren to do this to literature? [via Gawker]
Is Conrad’s project a hit or an offensive miss, Lovelies?

People deconstruct books all of the time to make things like hollowed out books (obviously), book clutches, and book headboards. This is no big deal.

I’m not one to care about what people do with their books. I read mine. She can make crafts with them…

It kind of hurts my soul to see her do that to the books. I’m an aspiring novelist and I think I’d cry if I saw someone do that to my work. It’s so sad. If she wants to make it look like she’s displaying books, maybe actually display some books >.>
Hmm,… now that my initial shock and horror has subsided a little, I guess it would be a cute project for spare books >.> Maybe

I cannot believe she would destroy books in that fashion. Doesn’t she have construction paper (or anything else) for her projects? I think she may convince some of her fans to rip apart books.
People please books are meant to be read; not to be taken apart like she did.
I am cringing too.

“This video has been removed by its user” …..lol

Why can’t she just bring out the covers and use those to decorate a box? I don’t see the need to destroy books for it.

“Books are awfully decorative, don’t you think?”

are people really offended by this? ………….

How terrible! Did you see what Mr. lemony snicket said, though?

The video was ‘removed by user’ so I didn’t get to see the monster in action… can you sense my sarcasm? People gut books all the time. Everything is going digital. And we really don’t have use for them anymore. It saddens me. I would personally never gut a book, however, I would like one of those purses that people keep pinning on Pinterest
that is some cool shit.

Are people honestly offended? It’s just a book. It’s just a way to recycle. Who cares? It’s not like she stole the book from your shelf.

Lol, seriously? You people need to grow some thicker skin if a girl doing crafts offends you.
