I admit, I have a type — Stocky, strong-looking guys with dark hair. And if I was single, I’d be in luck — There’s now a website that lets you “build” your dream mate, then search for those just like him!
This is a real website, called iDreamofU. And in the interest of reporting for you Lovelies, I built an account to test it out. The first thing they ask is whether you’d like to go for an “Everyday Match,” an “Almost Famous Face” patterned on a celebrity or build one from the ground up. You know I chose to make my own!
I’m not trying to be a buzzkill here, because I think think this is a really interesting idea. And I’m also not trying to sound like one of those opposites-attract romantic comedies. I’m just saying, maybe trying to find someone who fits the exact idea in your head isn’t the healthiest thing to do. Like when I built my guy on the site — I made him Caucasian just because that’s what race my current boyfriend is, not because I only go after white guys. You can’t determine everything about your mate in real life, which can be part of the fun of a relationship! But this attitude could put unrealistic expectations on whoever you’re with, or you’ll end up frustrated because no guy is exactly what you’re dreaming of…

What do you think of this website? Do you think looking for a “dream man” is a good idea?

I remember watching an episode of Love Broker and this dude was sitting there describing his perfect woman. The matchmaker was trying to get an idea for his “type” and he was being annoying picky. After a heart-to-heart finds out he is looking for someone who looks exactly like his ex. And I’m sure he isn’t the only one who has done that. Which leads me to believe a lot of people would end up making their fantasy mate look like a previous mate that they loved.
