While home last weekend, I visited my local mall and shopped until I dropped (or attempted to). I’m pretty sure Garden State Plaza houses one of the biggest Forever 21 locations (aside from New York or other major cities) and it just got even bigger. Already taking up a large chunk with a two floor store, Forever bought another acre or so (sure feels like it) of store 2 doors down and knocked out the wall to connect the two. To say it’s big is an understatement.
I spent over an hour browsing and I didn’t even venture to the downstairs section. This store is completely and utterly overwhelming. Considering the immense variety already in Forever’s clothing, imagine a store larger than a house just filled with tons and tons of clothes. I didn’t know where to begin, where to end, or how to approach this massive collection.
With a store this large, you would figure dressing rooms would be scattered throughout so you could continue to shop through each section. Nope. While there are a ton of dressing rooms, only one section was open. And of course on a Saturday, this section had an impressive line. Like most other stores, you are only allowed to take six items with you into the dressing room. A store the size of an elementary school…and I can only try on six things?
It’s no wonder one could spend hours in this store. I would’ve had to wait on the same long line to go in the dressing room over and over again after going through the merchandise in each of the store’s many sections…not worth it in my book. Forever offers pretty decent clothing at a reasonable price (if you know what to buy), but I simply can’t bother spending an entire day dealing with their nonsense.
I ended up finding one cute dress. Another I loved, but I needed to try another size to see which looked better but I was simply not willing to wait on that line again. Plus, I had friends waiting. That is definitely a store to tackle solo…
Lovelies, what are your Forever 21 stores like? Do you find it hard to shop in that store or other stores due to their size?

I love the clothes, I HATE the store. Even the small ones are awful at getting through. Clothes are just thrown around with practically no sense of organization (other than color). Items are never placed together, so if you find something you like but it’s not in your size, good luck finding another one. it’s awful
guest
yeah, i absolutely hate shopping there. i stick to their web site and just order $50 of stuff at a time to get free shipping. i wish they would organize better.
guest
i like going on their website but it sucks to not be able to try things on. it’s such an overwhelming store, though. and it’s hard to find any sense of organization. you just look around and hope you get lucky.

I was literally in that exact Forever 21 just 2 days ago, and I thought the same thing! I give you credit for sticking around for an hour, though… I gave up after about 15 minutes. Shopping fail. Too many clothes, too little time!

Yes, I do find Forever 21 to be a bit overwhelming. My frequent shopping buddy loves the store, so we go sometimes but I just tag along mostly. If I am looking for something in particular to complete an outfit, I probably will not go there unless I know I have hours to devote to looking for it. The organization (or lack there of) is atrocious. If I don’t see what I want, or something I like in a quick glance, I am not likely to stay.
guest
I don’t understand the lack of organization in every forever 21. You find one item in black in one section, you find the exact same thing in blue in another. Seriously? I used to just stick to online shopping but even their website sucks. It lags so much. (Or is that just me?)

I never understood how it was set up. The same shirt in four different colors is in seven different parts of the store.

the store at my mall is 2 stories. I don’t like the 6 item limit either. it deters me from buying more, because I’ll bring two different sizes of the same item, so I only have 3 items where I try on 2 different sizes each. or if I want to try on more styles, then I’ll just bring in one size of each item and if it doesn’t fit, then I just won’t buy it rather than going back to wherever the item was to try on the other size. I prefer at least a 12 item limit. or they have a lot of store associates, but only like one register open with one cashier, and long lines also often deter me. sometimes I’ll abandon my items or don’t even enter the store at all when I spy long lines.

I went to the Forever 21 on Oxford Street in London on Monday, and it was havoc. I left within about ten minutes, the whole thing really confused me, haha.

I always thought those stores were arranged according to “style” hence you find 1 shirt maybe in different colors scattered through the store. It can be worn with the items you find near it to get different looks. I spot the section of the store that has my “Style” and head in that direction. I may browse the other sections to see if anything catches my eye. However, it is rare I go in Forever 21. The clothes are usually too young for my tastes.

Whenever I go to Forever 21, I also hone in on the Sale section. But even then, there are dozens of racks for the sale items, and then there are random clothes thrown on the ground on draped all over the racks. It’s always such a pain in the butt to shop there. I also hate that the music’s always blaring. I guess that appeals to the younger crowds, but I always end up with a headache. I’ve found that I get more luck thrift store shopping than trying to find a nice, cheap item at Forever 21.
guest
this is why i prefer to shop at their online store instead, plus its always so messy and disorganized in almost every forever 21 store i go to
guest
I get a dizzy feeling when I walk in there and I can’t quite figure out what I’m looking at. I usually end up buying a shirt.

Am I the only one who feels like they’re in heaven when they’re in there? I don’t get overwhelmed. I figured out there’s a method to their madness…lovelyish did a post on there. I can really spend hours and hours in there. I just bought a bunch of stuff today actually.

the forever21 where i live in canada, im assuming, gets all the left overs from the better stores in the united states… whole store is packed with beautiful clothes – all in every size but small. i agree it’s completely overwhelming, fortunately my best friend loves going through everything in there just as much as i do, frantically searching for a jem in a small

TOO CRAZY @.@

I’ve been in the Forever 21 at my mall I think twice. I disliked everything about it. It was huge, 2 stories with left and right sides, big enough to be 4 stores. There seemed to be no rhyme or reason to any of it. The prices weren’t that great. I was very unimpressed with their staff too. No one offered me assistance, and I really could of used some help finding a dress for a certain occasion. I wasn’t even acknowledged with a greeting of any kind.

Compare to your ladies’ description of your nearest F21 store, the nearest store in my town is pretty small. However, even with the small F21 store in my town is already pretty overwhelming as well.

Try working there. I work at one that is 33,000 square feet, two story. Clothes are arranged by the “style”, for instance-summer, western, rebel, wartime gal, safari etc. The reason why there’s only one thing of everything is because we can’t find those pieces because they were sent to the wrong go-back racks, and put into those sections by lazy workers, or because they are onesies that haven’t been marked yet.
I think their set up is ridiculous as well, but they do not ask for input from the sales associates, who KNOW the confusion of having same style in different colors be spread throughout the store. I also hate that they constantly move around items and don’t inform workers where they go.
Now as for the 6 items only in the dressing room, it’s for security purposes. We can keep track of six items. However, I hate having to tell customers to put their other items on the side, so I allow customers to go into dressing rooms as long as I have a general idea of how many items they have (Some people are trying on like 20 items at a time!) Please though, for the sake of the workers and other customers, don’t take your sweet time blocking the aisles, or stand outside friends/family members doors(or sit on the damn floor like some people) so we don’t have to squirm around you to get to a room! Have some courtesy, and at least move if you see someone trying to get somewhere.
I put my two weeks in for school purposes, but I have learned to be much cleaner when it comes to being a shopper. I fix the shit I accidentally knock down, I don’t rub actual shit on clothes (yup a co-worker found human feces on a shirt hanging up), I make sure to hang my clothes back on my hangers the right way out, and I don’t leave Starbucks cups on mannequin stands. I realize that a store is to shop, but it is NOT my home to destroy, and the mess caused during the day can make some sales associates have to work past 11pm to clean up everything to the likings of a manager.
I love shopping at Forever 21 though. Online

I loved forever 21 when it was a smaller store (about the size of every other store in the mall) and it use to have great stuff then (this is like 5 years back.) Now I find it far too overwhelming, and most of there clothes crappy. If I do shop there, I first walk around the entire store to check out whats available and then hit the spots that I think would find something I like. This way I can get out of there pretty fast.

huge overwhelming store, hideous tacky and poorly made clothes :O

@ohmyits_erin@xanga - I also worked in retail, it teaches you A LOT on how to be a better shopper. You are a saint for putting up with working there though!

@ohmyits_erin@xanga - I TOTALLy understand you! Though I don’t work at Forever 21, I do work at T.J. Maxx, and if you’ve ever been to a T.J. Maxx store, it is crazy shit in there too! Though most things are assorted by color, it’s like a giant garage sale – every day! Drives me crazy! From what I’ve learned working in retail, especially in stores where there seems to be quite a lot of chaos, is that customers need to do their part too! Just like what you said, if you mess something up, please help clean/pick it up. If you have something to throw away, please ask an associate of the nearest garbage or if they can toss it for you, etc. Reality is, stores get trashed because of certain shoppers – people – who don’t have any respect for things and property that is not theirs. Shoe departments are the worst. Don’t treat it like your shoe closet, this is a STORE. Retail’s great experience, but after some time, I just can’t put up with other people’s messiness.

I agree with you. Not only does it tend to be a larger store in general, but the amount of merchandise they pack onto each rack and shelf is outrageous. You can’t even look at what they have it’s so stuffed in. And there seems to be no rhyme or reason to how they sort the styles of clothing. It’s a complete nightmare. Prices are good, but like you, I just can’t be bothered to spend an entire DAY in a store to MAYBE find a few good peices. And it’s not like the quality is great and you can wear what you do end up buying forever anyways…:(!!!

I recently went to Forever 21 that was expanded from it’s original size. The store was overwhelming. Although, the store was divided into sections based on style, accessories, etc. I went on a Thursday, it wasn’t terribly busy but still plenty of customers shopping around. Sales Associates were scattered throughout different sections, and had enough cashiers. (I didn’t have to wait too long in line.) On my last visit, I ended up buying costume jewelry. No clothing though.
I have bought online from Forever 21. Some hello kitty pieces from the collection last year. I was lucky enough to snag a few pieces, before the collection completely sold out…fast.

I have been in a Forever 21 store maybe once. They cater to a different clientele then I. I am more of a jeans & skater hoodie type of girl, so Pac-Sun or even A&E is more my style.
However, I would abhor going into any store that was as gigantic as the one you just mentioned. I like my store small to medium sized, with plenty of room to maneuver & dressing rooms that don’t have a mile long waiting line.

I also hate the store I only really buy stuff online.

Wow, seems like a lot of people have some real hatred against Forever 21, whether it be for their clothes, the organization or the size.
I personally like shopping at Forever 21 BOTH in the store and online. Sure their clothes are disorganized, but if you have time to shop and don’t mind looking, it’s not too bad.
I have found sometimes things are cheaper in the store.. I recently bought some skirts for work for $8.80 in the store and checked the website before I went and they were $14.80!
I’m sorry you girls have so many problems with the Forever 21s near you… you’re welcome to come to Pittsburgh and shop there, I like it:)

I am totally with @newportbreeze@xanga on this one because I LOVE Forever 21 too! Sooo many pretty clothes to browse and try out, not to mention a decent collection of footwear and TONS of jewelry! I haven’t gone shopping in almost two years now, but I definitely plan on hitting F21 before this year is over.
@randi - If you think the two-floor store in Garden State (Jersey girl too lol) was overwhelming, the 5-story MONSTROSITIES in Tokyo would give you an aneurysm. I kid you not about the size. H&M and Uniqlo are also similar sizes in the more popular wards of Tokyo. No lie, my friends and I spent hours there and we had a blast! And as a note, that was just the women’s section. Men and kids were on the other side of the half-block building!
I guess with stores like F21 you generally have to be a patient kind of person with no expectations. You don’t need to devote hours and hours of your day in one location because you totally have the freedom to just wander around until something catches your eye. That’s what I do anyway. I will, of course, “ooh” and “ahh” over pretties, but I’ll only try on items that really “call” to me. Plus, I’m the type who can amuse herself no matter the situation, so I don’t mind long lines. To each her own!

You would think that a store that popular and busy would be properly organized. They’d do so much more business. It gives me a headache to go in there. If I have a bit of time, I might, or if I desperately need something new like a cute dress or top (since they’re somewhat affordable, depending what I find).

I agree with you. There’s a mall about half an hour away from that opened up a new Forever 21 couple of months ago. The old Forever 21 used to be a small store that was still crowded, but easy to find stuff. The new one is two stories with TONS of space (it used to be an old Borders bookstore).
I hate going in there now because there’s so much space to cover (even though it’s split into sections, you get tired after two sections) and the lines for the dressing room are a NIGHTMARE. -_- The amount of clothes they put in that space is just overwhelming for me. I prefer shopping online.

Oh I hate the store. It’ certainly overwhelming to the max! There are all different sorts of clothes all over the place as it’s poorly organized. That and half of the stuff online NEVER exist in the store so I can never try it on when I get there. I don’t even venture into that store unless I’m bored and have time to waste because it takes ages to actually find stuff!
guest
It’s really not overwhelming at all if you go in there knowing what you’re looking for.

For anyone who wears over a size large, Forever21 is hugely UNDERwhelming. We have 10 items to choose from. I’d rather be overwhelmed.
