Popular bodywear company Spanx will be opening up its first standalone stores in three major malls on the East Coast. Spanx are the best friend of many stars, including Beyonce, Kim Kardashian and Tyra Banks. They have taken the world of women by storm, transforming bodies and hiding essentially any imperfection. Personally, I’m not sure how I feel about them.
Spanx shapewear comes in many designs, from underwear, to larger briefs, to a full tummy tucking silhouette. The company even recently added a men’s line which I believe is selling significantly well. I considered getting a piece to wear under my prom dress to make sure everything looked nice, but since it had a low open back, I was unable to find something. I’ve never tried any of their items on, so I can’t vouch for the comfort of them, but I think Spanx has a great market.
Even some of the most fit women could benefit from Spanx in conditions where tight clothes are worn. I’ve fallen in love with many dresses that I did look good in, but would look even better if I had something to suck me in just a teeny bit. Spanx have become the corsets of this generation.
I doubt they are comfortable to wear every day, but for special occasions I think this is a great product. The stores will be opening in New Jersey’s Garden State Plaza (my local mall!), King of Prussia (PA), and Tyson’s Corner Center (VA). If these locations do well, which I suspect they will, I’m sure more will be popping up at a mall near you!
Lovelies, do you wear Spanx? What is your impression of them?

I’m small, size four and in good shape, and I loveeee my spanx (I have more offbrand spanx though for the price). They don’t really make me smaller, they just make everything so smooth so my clothes just hang better on my body, rather than getting caught up on my hip or something random. I really do love them. For being small I have really wide hips and a pretty big butt and can never find clothes that fit a small waist but a wide bottom half and spanx makes everything fit. I wear them more often then not (I work in an environment I have to look professional and kept) and never get bothered by them.

I have not worn Spanx before, but I may if the occasion arises. I agree, Spanx would be useful for occasions in which a tight dress/outfit would be worn, just to smooth out the lumps and bumps. Who wouldn’t want to have a smooth, sleek look?

Assets is a brand designed by Spanx and is significantly cheaper. They are found at your local Target!

This should be good
I have a hip-dip and it is SO hard to look good in tight dresses (body-cons) >.

Are they comfortable? I’ve seen them in my local mall, but held off, wondering if they are comfie. And I’m pretty comfortable in my own skin, imperfect as it is. I’m a few months shy of 60, and weight 8 pounds more than when I married at 22, but things do hang differently as we age, so I’d probably buy some if I thought they were easy on the feel.

I have really mixed feelings. I can totally understand having to wear them with certain types of dresses that are slinky and only look good on like, a flat surface. But I don’t think I’d ever wear one of those dresses so it doesn’t really apply to me.
How I see it, for me, is that everyone can tell I’m fat. Wearing Spanx isn’t going to change that. It might make my fat smoother?, but I don’t think it’s worth it to be uncomfortable when there’s so little of a difference.
I also remember having in the back of my mind, what if I get some after this event? I don’t want to either have to take them off in the bathroom and come out looking lumpy, or have him find out I’m wearing them. It was just always such a weird concept! Like the booty bop. It doesn’t matter as much now, since my boyfriend knows a lot of my little secrets, but on a first date it might have ruined it!
