Once I save up enough money, I’m going to adopt a Bichon of my own. But until then, I have to satisfy myself with Pinterest photos. Sigh.
I actually had a Bichon a long time ago, but he was dog-napped while I was away at college. His name was Andy, and he was the sweetest dog ever. He and I even shared the same birthday! But Andy was a purebred Bichon, so he was probably a sitting duck for dog-nappers. I miss that little guy so much…
Because of my experience with Andy, I’ve become a huge Bichon Frise fan. They originated as companion dogs for sailors, because let’s face it, what other kind of dog could retain its cuteness after 6 months at sea? In fact, because of their affiliation with travel, Bichons eventually made it all the world. They’re became famous as palace dogs, and were the favorites of the Italian and especially French royal courts. They’ve even made their way into classic paintings!
Though the popularity of Bichons has gone up and down over the ages, they’ve maintained their reputation for being pleasant, happy little dogs. They get along great with kids, don’t shed, and I can testify that they’re tough enough for really long walks and hikes. It’s definitely one of my goals to own a Bichon Frise of my own once I’m an established “grown-up.” It’s right up there with paying off student debt and buying my first car. Until then, enjoy these awesome pictures that I’ve collected!
Oh and did I mention that Bichons really like having clean fur?
Do you own a Bichon Frise? What’s YOUR favorite breed of dog?

Hands down the Doberman Pinscher. Energetic, loyal to a fault, protective when need be, playful, and an all-around great utility dog great for working, agility, and just companionship. Always by your side, eager to please, and best of all, on the larger size (typically around 2.25″ tall and weigh about 90-100 pounds). I should say though, I hate tail docking and ear cropping. I like my Dobies all-natural, the way they were born. I think docking/cropping are sick practices that should be banned (and they have been in many European countries).
I didn’t necessarily have a favorite until I owned a Doberman that I raised from two days old. He didn’t live very long (passed on due to Parvo), but I’m hooked on the breed now.
EDIT: I wouldn’t own a bitching freeze (LOL!) if you paid me. I absolutely 100% do NOT like small dogs. When it comes to dogs, bigger is better IMO.

I love pit bulls, but I my dog is a pomeranian. Before him, every dog that was a part of my family was a large dog, usually a lab, pit, or doberman. It was interesting to adjust to the small dog personality, but we love him. If only we could get him to understand that he doesn’t have to tell us about all the really cool stuff he sees, and hears, and smells.

Definitely cockapoos. They are silly dogs who will do whatever they have to to make you laugh. They’re also a good size for anyone- large enough to do whatever hiking you want, but small enough to be easily manageable. They’re cute, sweet, not yappy, and because they’re a mixed breed, they’re pretty hardy.
I love Rhodesian Ridgebacks also, of course. We’ve got one of each breed. Really, I like most dogs. My ‘poo is totally in love with any kind of spaniel, poodle, or pit bull that she meets.

I’m not overfond of small dogs.. ridiculous ankle biters, lol.
German shepard is my favorite breed, but I also like Great Pyrenees, and wolf hybrids.
Huskies are a pain in the ass.
Stubborn as hell, lol.
I liked my neighbor’s husky, Houdini, stubborn but also smart as hell.
But my mum’s husky? Not the sharpest tool in the shed.
And never get a husky (or a Mal for that matter) if you want a quiet animal!

I never had a dog, so I can’t say which is my favorite breed to have…but if I did, I would probably rescue one. Mostly likely be mixed. I am not overly concerned about the breed.
@zzzzzulavalle@xanga - I feel so much better that I am not the only person who has had a pet birthday party!

I really want a Papillion.
But I own a Chihuahua, Rat Terrier, and an English Mastiff. I love a lot of different breeds. Rat Terriers are so loving and gentle. They’re really smart too, and good at hunting. Chihuahuas are a own person companion (he’s mine), and he gets angry with my husband at times. Our English Mastiff is a great family dog. She is very gentle, but protective when someone enters our house and we don’t greet them right away. She’ll let kids be rough with her and she’s mindful of our Chihuahua and Rat Terrier when playing with them.

I have a Bichon Frise
just turned one this past April. He’s playful and super smart, but if I had a say when we picked a dog, I would have gone with a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever. Beautiful dogs, very intelligent and the perfect size for me. I’m not a fan of small dogs, but I love my crazy little monster

I had a Terrier/Schitzu mixed that actually looked more like a Bichon Frise! He was hyper and cute and soooo loving, but . . .not the smartest puppy I’d ever had. For some reason, I could never get him trained to go outside, no matter what method I used and I eventually had to make him an outside dog where he caught the mange and died
My favorite was my Siberian Husky, Smoke. He was kinda dumb too though but he was protective and cute, with his one blue eye and one brown that everyone loved. Plus he was like the cleanest dog ever. My boyfriend’s dog is a mini Jack Russel and he is so damn cute that we hated having to leave him behind when we moved.
