When you think of ‘Pinups‘ you probably think of Betty Page. Well I guess there were quite a few women in the 50′s with dreams of being a pinup girl. It’s too bad that pinup done wrong is super awkward.
I found this photo set on a website called These Americans, which is devoted to the American narrative. There are tons of vintage photo catergories for you to click through, but this one stuck out to me. So here are some really awkward pinup photos from the 1950s.
It’s impossibly hard for me to feel sexy and not awkward, so props to these women for giving it a try.

Meh. These women were shot in less than perfect lighting and not even airbrushed. They don’t look that bad. Moreover, these pictures would have been redrawn so that they look more like the after shots on this site. I love pin up art and I would totally do it, especially if it is more like the pin up art from the past and not just a photograph. I love the site you linked by the way.
ETA: with that said, that blonde chick with the teeth…her skin is so yellow, I’d be afraid to breathe the same air as her. She must have had hepatitis in that picture. Seriously.

Yikes! The blonde chick! She has a big bruise down the middle of her neck and she does look a little jaundiced…The others really aren’t bad in terms of the models themselves, but the lighting and props are terrible. I would love to take pinup photos.

I’m sure better lighting and different props would have greatly improved these pictures. But either way, love to do some of my own pinup pics someday.

I thought the keyhole one was kind of cute. She does look a little awkward, but it’s still good. I also liked the duck shoot one. All of them are awkward, but those are still kind of nice ^.^

All awkward and none are sexy. Yes, I’ve posed for steamy photos. An ex dabbled in photography and I had modeled some in high school/college. The results were very tasteful and quite sexy indeed!
He showed them to a few mutual friends who were far happier with the way they turned out than the ex.
