Okay maybe my title is a little misleading, I suppose nothing about a mugshot is really ‘awesome’ per say but they can add some hilarity to the monotony of daily life. As long as you aren’t the person pictured, what’s the harm in giggling at the unflattering light awkward pose or bad makeup seen in some of the worst mug shots? While most of these are in black and white so we can’t see any makeup issues, the poses make up for it. These mugshots from the 1800′s are hilarious!
Pictured above is David Kirk Rhodes who in addition to caressing his chest also enjoyed cheating his employers out of money through nine counts of embezzlement.
Nobody is quite sure what Thomas Murphy was convicted of, but he sure doesn’t look all that conscious for his incriminatory photo shoot…

I must say being able to sit in a chair seems more like sitting at home and not getting a mug shot.
Some of them seemed to either be unconscious or to drunk to open their eyes. Kind of funny if you think about it.
