As a heavily tattooed woman living in a city where 75% of its population has at least one tattoo, I forget that there was a time where very few women were tattooed. However, It kinda seems that the women who were tattooed really went for it, covering their arms, chests and sometimes their entire body.
I love everything about these photos. The time period, the style of tattoos, the hair and beauty aspects… I have always felt I was born into the wrong era, and these photos just reinforce that feeling. Here are some really incredible vintage photos of tattooed women.

I don’t have any tattoos yet. If having tattoos pleases the adorned, I’m all for it.

I don’t have any, and I honestly don’t like them. I did when I was a teenager, but now they just seem stupid.

A beautiful collection of photos… and their tattoos are so much more amazing/classy and interesting than 90% of the shit I see today.

It’s about time there was a worthwhile post around here. Nice job.

I have tattoos. Though I do not wish to be heavily tattooed. Anyone else can be though.

Nice gallery of photos. I like the old time feel to them.
Many women back in the day that were heavily tattooed were done so b/c they were part of a traveling circus.
I do have one tattoo. it’s a few inches long… a leopard ghecko crawling up my my lower calf, starting at my ankle.

I like the woman with the cat eye glasses and the sleeve tattoos. So odd together. I wonder what she was like.
I don’t have any, and don’t want any. Mostly because I don’t think it would fit my personality at all, so I wouldn’t be able to pull it off.

Something common for tattooed people to hear is that we will regret it when we’re older because the skin will stretch and wrinkle, etc.
My husband points out that when we’re old and our skin is wrinkly… it would still be wrinkly regardless. None of these women look that old, but I saw a picture of an old lady who was covered in tattoos. It didn’t look any worse than any normal old lady… and I renewed my commitment to more tattoos.

I’ve seen people that are in their 70′s and 80′s that have tattoos, and you know what? The tattoo doesn’t look bad at all, it just looks like the ink bled a bit, and the tat is usually kind of fuzzy around the edges, but it doesn’t get all misshapen and weird like most anti-tattoo people claim.

I hate tattoos, and I don’t think they are feminine at all.
