As the Olympics come to an end, of course the ridiculous amount of Olympic-related posts will also. But, for now, we still have two days until the closing ceremony. So lets continue to celebrate, honor and secretly giggle at our Olympic athletes. It’s all in good fun right?
I’m sure these synchronized swimmers are beautiful and elegant in the water, but when a photo is snapped at just the right moment…things get a little scary looking. They must use the most serious water-proof eyeshadow ever created.

OMG, those are bordering on scary!

the water spitting just ices the cake. they are scarier than clowns.

Wouldn’t you be horrified if you were under the suspicion someone might’ve peed in the water you were synchronically swimming in?

Oh indeed, and I thought I was alone. The expressions and the creepy perma-makeup.
I will be sad about the Olympics. I am more sad about the lack of equestrian coverage though.

@Cambios@xanga - I don’t think there should be any equestrian events. If people want to put themselves through all that work to be in the Olympics, it is their choice. The horses don’t have a choice, and I abhor the painful bits the riders use and the soring of their ankles to get the horses to step high.

@Cambios@xanga - Yup. ‘Cause the Olympics is about the best horses from each country… *face/palm* I will never understand how that is considered an Olympic sport. Along with a lot of other “sports”. Friggen ping pong? You’ve GOT to be joking.
The Olympics is nothing I enjoy watching. If I didn’t have a sports-obessed boyfriend, I wouldn’t even watch them. Or… anything else, actually. I don’t enjoy TV/movies all that much. There are the rare few things on TV that are awesome. But I will be so happy when I can stop hearing about these people wasting their lives playing with balls, swimming laps in pools, or running around in circles. It’s seriously stupid.

@JanetL - Umm.. excuse me, but I’m a professional rider and you seem to be seriously misinformed. First off, while some riders do use drastic bits, I didn’t really see anyone using harsh bits. You want to see harsh? A hackamore, or bitless bridle, can cause wayyy more pain than a bit. But most professionals in Jumping and Dressage will use normal bits because the object is to get the horse moving forward and accepting the bit and you can’t really get that with harsh bits. Second, the spurs are necessary, they are required in this level of riding. But again, most riders don’t use harsh spurs. My spurs look like four leaf clovers. Not sharp at all. Almost every set of spurs I’ve seen are not pointed or painful at all. Not only are the horses pain nerves centered far enough below their skin that it doesn’t bother them, but riders are also taught to use the gentlest of pressures, which is why you never see the riders stabbing the shit out of them but instead very lightly tapping it against their side. And as far as pain delivered to get them to step high, I don’t know who you have seen training but I have NEVER seen a rider inflict pain, other than a light tap with the whip. & while I understand everyone is different in their training, the horsemanship theory is widely used by many competitors these days, and horsemanship is about coming to a common understanding with horses, not hurting them until they do what you want.
If these horses were terrified of their riders or of what was going on, they wouldn’t do it. They would be bucking, rearing and broncing for the exit. If a horse does not want to do something, you’re going to eat dirt. Trust me; fear doesn’t work. They’re bigger animals than you and most of them know it. Most of these horses absolutely LOVE their job, you can tell in the way they take on the fences or simply by the look in their eye. They don’t look afraid; they look excited & determined. They love their job, & both them and their trainers have been practicing long & hard to get there. Don’t ever demean someone’s work unless you know what you’re talking about.
