I hope your summer has been going well, Lovelies. Most people I know opt to partake in the decades-old tradition of “summer reading” during these sweltering months, and it’s rare to see anyone sitting poolside without a novel in hand.

Usually folks seem to fall into two types of summer reading camps: either they’re toting around a lighthearted, fluffy piece of work that makes people smile, or they’re chiseling away at a well-known classic. But now there’s a pretty amazing video that combines aspects of the two camps: a short based off John Steinbeck’s East of Eden.

The film is directed by Zachary Quinto, stars Dan Humphrey Penn Badgley and manages to make a serious piece of American literature quite funny. Watch the NSFW video by clicking here!

Who knew that Penn was so darn funny? Maybe he should try taking a dip in the Comedy genre once Gossip Girl wraps up its final season this year. Whether you like him (or this movie), at least you now know the synopsis of the book, so you can totally pretend to have read it this summer. [via Jezebel]
